BSoA Announce Exhibition Lineup On March 1
The Bermuda Society of Art [BSOA] has announced an exhibition lineup on March 1, featuring the “To Spring with Love” Exhibition at Onions Gallery, “The Descendants” showcasing the Kemble family’s artistic legacy at Studio A & B, and “20 Years of Graphic Design” commemorating SJDWorld’s anniversary at Edinburgh Gallery.
Onions Gallery:
“To Spring with Love” BSoA Members Spring Exhibition
A spokesperson said, “BsoA’s Member artists will be joining together in producing work where they will explore light and colour and how it relates to the emotion of love and/or springtime.”
Studio A & B:
“The Descendants”
A spokesperson said, “Presents the work of five members of the Kemble family. William T. Kemble [1911-1986] was a Bermuda landscape painter who exhibited here at City Hall in the 1970s. His daughter, Katherine Zuill, has lived and painted in Bermuda since 1982. Elise P. Church, of Brooklyn, NY, is Zuill’s daughter, and Kemble’s granddaughter. They are joined by two more of Kemble’s granddaughters, Whitney C. Robbins and Katy Robbins, both of Western Massachusetts.
“Though they live far from one another, all of the artists have worked in the same physical spaces together—even if in the form of coloring on the studio floor while Grandpa Kemble painted or sketching in his company as a child. The three granddaughters/cousins have worked side by side in each other’s studios, have visited the Zuill household in Bermuda for artist retreats, and have shared dining room table space in Massachusetts on hot summer days [usually with Zuill], literally swapping source material.
“All five seem to share a reverence for the past and for recreating spaces that represent home. Together, their body of work could be seen as a vision of home–as sensed in a garden or still life, or found family photos, or the imagined interiors of old homes. Home, as represented by a moody landscape, collage, or abstractions from a photograph depicting the objects and palettes of past decades. Memories or moments lost and then found.”
Studio C:
“Paws, Paint and Pose” by Belinda Tartaglia.
Ms. Tartaglia said, “For this show, I strive to capture the beauty and simplicity of animals. Gaining inspiration from the rich tapestry of animal life, I use a variety of mediums, including watercolor, acrylic, and colored pencils, to evoke textures and colors. My aim is to remind us of the splendor and joy of animals, inviting the viewers to pause, reflect, giving a loving thought for the animals that fill us with joy.
“I embrace spontaneity and experimentation, allowing intuition to guide me. I approach each subject with a spirit of openness and curiosity. Ultimately, the paintings, photographs and painted object reflects my ongoing dialog with the world around me – a celebration of the magnificent, simplicity of life.
“I can list a few things that I am passionate about, however, loving animals and remaining creative, are high on that list. To combine those two passions into a creative project has indeed been an enjoyable experience.
“All creatures great and small have a place in my heart and soul, however, there is an extra special place especially for cats. This show is to honour animals, for they bring a tremendous amount of joy and love into our lives. Therefore, this art show is not about how I have represented the animals creatively, but to show my appreciation for having been blessed by the acceptance and love from delightful animals.
“I am so very grateful and thankful for all the lessons that all ‘creatures, great and small’ have taught me throughout the years.”
Edinburgh Gallery:
“20 Years of Graphic Design” by owner and creative Director Stephan Johnstone celebrating the20th Anniversary of SJDWorld.
A spokesperson said, “A reflection on past projects and variety of services the company has grown since its inception.”
