The Bermuda Football Association awarded the Appleby youth league trophies to FC Bascome, Warwick FA, and PHC.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Football Association presented the Appleby youth league trophies on Sunday at the Clyde Best Centre of Excellence. The 2023/24 winners were FC Bascome in the under 13 division, Warwick FA in the Under 15 division and PHC in the under 18 division.

“Three teams were still undefeated heading into the final week of the season. North Village and Dandy Town played to a 2-2 draw on Tuesday evening which all but eliminated Dandy Town from title winning contention with their third draw of the season. North Village would go on the face FC Bascome Blue on Friday night in a winner takes all show down. Each team entered the match having only dropped two points all season.

“Adam Barritt gave FC Bascome the lead late in the first half after steering home a loose ball in the box following a corner. Jeon Wolfe put the match out of reach after scoring two fine efforts following two powerful runs into the Village area. North Village would finish the season in second place. The three major under 13 honours were shared by the league’s top three teams. North Village won the preseason Gregory Grimes while Dandy Town won the under 13 A knock out cup in March after defeated Somerset Cricket Club 2-1. Somerset took an early lead through a wonderfully struck long range effort from Sonai Darrell. Dandy Town equalized through an own goal sending the teams into the half tied at 1-1. Game MVP Kayuri Tucker won the game for Dandy Town after rising above everyone in the box to steer home a powerful header.

“Warwick Football Academy had a season to remember after winning all three trophies on offer for the 2023/24 season. Warwick finished the season five points ahead of Dandy Town with PHC finishing a distant third 13 points adrift. In November they defeated PHC to win the under 15 Leonard DeRosa Holder tournament. In March they faced their toughest battle of the season needing a penalty shootout to secure victory over FC Bascome in the under 15 knockout cup. Game MVP Sami Carolo put Warwick in front in the first half via the penalty spot after a Bascome handball in the area. Bascome MVP Isai Gibbons leveled the score late in the match via a free kick which evaded everyone in the box including the Warwick goalkeeper. Warwick changed their goalkeeper for the shootout by sending defender D’ari Coddington between the posts. The switch proved to be the right decision as Coddington stopped two Bascome efforts to lead Warwick to victory.

“PHC followed the success of their senior men’s team in winning the under 18 division in the last week of the season. PHC entered the final week of the season one point ahead of FC Bascome and needed a victory to secure the league title. The league finished in an anticlimactic manner after North Village were unable to field a team thus ensuring PHC the three points they needed to secure the league title. Bascome had won the two cups this season by winning the Charles Marshall Cup over Robin Hood in December and winning the Under 18 knock out with a 3-2 win over North Village last weekend. Bascome got goals from Mosiais Mills, Christian Piney and Ramsay Soutter. North Village replied with Jyus Dill and Saezjhor Dent.”
