BUEI’s Young Reporters For The Environment
BUEI announced the return of their National Environmental Journalism Competition through the Young Reporters for the Environment [YRE] Programme.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] is pleased to announce the return of our National Environmental Journalism Competition through the Young Reporters for the Environment [YRE] Programme. YRE is a programme offered by BUEI as National Operator of the Foundation for Environmental Education programmes [FEE] in Bermuda.
“This year, submissions will highlight environmental pollution, biodiversity loss and climate change.
“Hosted by BUEI for the first-time last year, the Young Reporters for the Environment Journalism Competition is open to youth aged 11-25. Young people are encouraged to use any one of three media tools [writing, photography, and film] to engage their audience in a local environmental topic of their choice.
“In preparation for the YRE Environmental Journalism Competition, BUEI will be holding a virtual workshop hosted by BUEI’s Director of Education, Julie Steele, for students to learn how to create their most inspiring articles, photos, and videos, ensure submissions are competition ready and to become the best reporter for the environment! We encourage all students with an interest in the environment, who love to write, take photos, or create short films, to join one of the following 15-minute sessions offered on Thursday, April 11 at 12:15-12:30 pm | 12:45-1:15 pm | 3:00-3:15 pm.
“BUEI will be accepting submissions between April 15 – April 29. Winning submissions will be entered into the YRE annual International Competition which is assessed by an international jury and recognised on a global scale. 450,000+ students in 44 countries are currently involved in the YRE programme and over 19,000 photos, articles and videos are submitted annually.
