Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play Championships
The Men’s Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play Championships opening round was played yesterday at Port Royal Golf Course.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play is the National Stroke Championship hosted by The Bermuda Golf Association at Port Royal Golf Course. The Men’s event boasts four divisions; a Championship, Senior Men’s Championships, a Men’s First Flight and this year’s competition will include a junior division.
“The Championship Division early leader is Oliver Betschart who opened with a fine round of three under par 68. Betschart is fresh off playing competitive rounds in Europe, and demonstrated consistency posting only one bogey, four birdies and thirteen pars. He is closely followed by Adam Perry who posted an opening round one under par 70, and Butler University student Kenny Leseur Junior who managed to card an even par 71.
“In the Senior Men’s Championship returning visitor Scott Clark from Columbus, Georgia shot an impressive two under round of 69. He is being chased by local golfer Rod Forrest who carved out a one over par 72 with highlights of in his round with back to back birdies on the challenging 15th and 16th holes. The top three in this division is rounded out by Richard Neame with a 74. Neame finished his strongly being one under over his final eight holes.”
