170 Compete At 2024 Anglers Junior Tournament

The 2024 Bermuda Anglers Club Junior Tournament saw a record 170 participants and a lively weigh-in, highlighted by an impressive 46.7lb wahoo caught by 11-year-old Mackenzie Barnes.

A spokesperson said, “Family, fun, sunshine and fish were the hallmarks of Sunday’s weigh in for the 2024 Bermuda Anglers Club Annual Junior Tournament.

“A record 170 junior anglers signed up for the event and over 70 of those participants came to the weigh station to collect their free t-shirt or hat, to have their picture taken and to enjoy some refreshments courtesy of Butterfield & Vallis.

“The Spanish Point Boat Club [SPBC] proved to be the perfect location for the 2024 event, which was held in memory of the Bermuda Anglers Club’s late President and good friend, Niel Jones whose life was tragically lost in an accident on the water over the 2023 Cup Match holiday weekend. Members of the Jones family were heavily involved in this year’s tournament and helped make sure the weigh-in ran smoothly.

“Parents and guardians of our junior angling community go to great lengths to ensure their children can participate in this event. This year junior anglers landed everything from breams and grunts to wahoos, with the biggest fish coming to the scales being a fantastic 46.7lb wahoo caught by 11-year-old Mackenzie Barnes.

“Representatives from the Bermuda Anglers Club are now busy tallying results ahead of Saturday’s prize giving which will also be held at the SPBC, starting at 10am. Junior anglers and their parents and guardians are encouraged to attend the prize giving as there will be some great door prizes to give away.

“The 2024 event has been made possible by a generous group of local sponsors including H&H Plumbing and Mechanical Ltd, C-Mart, The Birdcage, PW Marine, BermudAir, Rowe Spurling Paints, The Front Yard, TABS Bermuda, Two Fish in a Barrel, Longtail Re and Butterfield & Vallis.
