Video: Wing Failure During SailGP Training
SailGP F50 experienced ”carrying a crew of six athletes experienced a catastrophic wing failure during training in Bermuda.”
A spokesperson said, “All athletes are safe with no injuries on board, and damage to the boat is currently being assessed.
“The safety of all involved with SailGP is our top priority, and we are investigating the incident to determine its cause. Given the extent of the damage, significant impacts to the remainder of SailGP’s pre-season Bermuda training camp are likely, and further information will be released as it becomes available.
“The incident occurred during a training session with the Mubadala Brazil SailGP Team, including Brazilian driver Martine Grael and a crew of both new Brazilian team members, and experienced SailGP athletes.”
Grael said, “We had a very good training period in Bermuda, with a quick adaptation to the boat – the entire team is very pleased with the progress. Today, a material failure involving the F50 wing interrupted training. Fortunately, everyone is fine and that’s the most important part. We’re working closely with the team to understand next steps, and look forward to getting back to full preparation as soon as possible.”
