The Paralympic Games drew to a close in spectacular fashion yesterday [September 8] at the Stade de France in Paris, as the curtain came down after 11 days of inspiring performances.

The vibrant closing ceremony not only celebrated the athletes’ remarkable achievements but also set the stage for the next chapter in Los Angeles in 2028.

Bermuda proudly took part in the ceremony, with Jessica Lewis competing in athletics and Yushae DeSilva-Andrade in boccia.

Lorri Lewis, Jessica’s mother, served as Bermuda’s chef de mission.

Premier David Burt was among the dignitaries in attendance, joining thousands of spectators who filled the stadium to witness the ceremony.

The Games featured over 4,400 athletes from 169 delegations, with more than 2.5 million tickets sold, underscoring the global significance of the celebration of adaptive sports.

In a standout moment, France’s Aurélie Aubert, fresh from her boccia gold medal victory, teamed up with French para-cycling legend Mathieu Bosredon to extinguish the Paralympic Flame.

Aubert’s gold came after a narrow victory in the semi-finals over DeSilva-Andrade in the women’s BC1 division.
