Minister Speaks At Homelessness Conference
“Together, we can build a society where every person has the dignity of a home and the opportunity to thrive,” declared the Minister of Youth, Social Development, and Seniors Tinee Furbert at Friday’s Homelessness Conference, emphasizing the need for urgent and collective action in addressing homelessness on our island.
A Government spokesperson said, “The conference, hosted by HOME, held on the heels of World Homeless Day, gathered community leaders, advocates, social workers, policymakers, and individuals with lived experiences of homelessness to confront the critical challenges facing our society. In a heartfelt address, the Minister highlighted the complex nature of homelessness, acknowledging that it often stems from circumstances such as job loss, illness, or mental health crises rather than personal choice.”
“Life, as we know, brings unforeseen challenges, and no one is immune to the pressures that can lead someone to experience homelessness,” the Minister stated, recognizing the strength required to navigate these hardships.
The spokesperson said, “The conference provided a platform for participants to share insights and best practices aimed at tackling the multifaceted issue of homelessness. The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to increasing access to safe and affordable housing, strengthening social safety nets, and fostering partnerships with community organizations.”
“Your work is crucial to turning the tide on homelessness,” the Minister expressed, urging attendees to collaborate across sectors with compassion and a focus on sustainable solutions. The conference served as a significant opportunity for attendees to learn from one another, generating ideas and actionable steps to address homelessness meaningfully.
Minister Furbert concluded, “To those on the frontlines of this issue, your dedication saves lives and restores hope. Let this conference be a powerful step toward a more compassionate and supportive community for all.”
