Rick Wright’s Greenville Reach Play-Offs
Rick Wright’s Greenville Triumph have secured their sixth straight United Soccer League [USL] One play-off spot after defeating Lexington at Riggs Field, Clemson University, yesterday [October 5].
Lexington took a first-half lead through a Jamie Smith own goals before Greenville equalised in the 46th minute when Leo Castro scored.
In the 51st minute, Sebastian Velasquez netted the winner for Wright’s side.
“Getting the win and the play-off berth was massive,” Wright told Greenville’s social media.
“This was a home game technically, but coming to a facility [Historic Riggs Field] was part of the guys’ motivation today.
“They showed they are warriors to go down a goal but keep our composure and come back to get two spectacular goals and fight through a gruelling finish to get the result.”
A former Saltus Grammar School student, Wright made appearances for the Bermuda and United States national teams.
He was appointed head coach of Greenville at the start of the season, having served as assistant coach for several years.
Greenville, third in the standings, are away to Spokane Velocity on Saturday [October 12].
