Shaun Priestley Featured On Sailing Website
Shaun Priestley has reflected on coaching two of the island’s leading sailors, Adriana Penruddcoke and Sebastian Kempe, in a top sailing website.
Priestley, who runs the coaching and consultancy at GP Watercraft in England, supported Penruddocke during her Olympic Games journey in Paris last summer.
Penruddocke competed in the Women’s ILCA one-design class at the Paris Games at the Marseille Marina – a port city in the south of France.
Priestley, who has been running a long-term performance coaching relationship with the Bermuda national sailing team, coached Penruddocke through the Olympic qualification competition at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, in October 2023.
She secured a top ten finish in the Pan American Games to qualify for the Paris Games, where she finished 36th.
“I am immensely proud of the ILCA 6 Olympic Games campaign,” Priestley told yachtsandyachting.com.
“Adriana had some fantastic moments both in the qualifying process and out in Marseille at the Games, showing her potential going forwards.
“It was a pleasure to work with Julia in both the build-up too, and at the Olympics. The future is looking bright for these talented sailors.”
Priestley also works with Sebastian Kempe in the ILCA 7 at GP Watercraft.
Kempe won the Youth World Championships in the ILCA 6 in 2021 and was runner-up in the Youth World Championships in 2022.
He narrowly missed out in qualification for the Paris Games.
After taking a break, Kempe delivered a solid showing at the ILCA 7 Open and National Championship in Weymouth last summer, claiming silver in the under-21 men’s division and fourth overall.
