EDD Launches 2025 FinTech Webinar Series
The Economic Development Department [EDD] announced the launch of its FinTech Webinar Series 2025 – a monthly series “designed to educate, engage, and inspire FinTech professionals and enthusiasts.”
A Government spokesperson said, “This series aligns with the Government of Bermuda’s mission to position the Island as a global leader in FinTech innovation, leveraging its robust legal framework and forward-thinking strategies.
“The inaugural session, which will be held on January 13, 2025, at noon, will feature Kevin Richards, Chair of the Bermuda International Technology Association [BITA]. During this session, Kevin will share insights into BITA’s mission, Bermuda’s FinTech landscape, and the factors that make Bermuda an attractive hub for innovative technology businesses. He will also discuss how Bermuda’s legal framework supports consumer protection and FinTech innovation.
“The FinTech Webinar Series will cover diverse topics, including practical applications of AI, blockchain development, data science, cybersecurity, and Bermuda-based success stories. Each month, expert speakers will provide valuable insights and foster an engaging learning environment for attendees.”
“This webinar series offers a front-row seat to Bermuda’s dynamic FinTech ecosystem,” said Minister of Economy and Labour Jason Hayward. “More than just a learning opportunity, it’s a chance to connect with industry leaders, explore real-world success stories, and understand the cutting-edge laws that position Bermuda as a global FinTech hub. Don’t miss the opportunity to discover why FinTech is a cornerstone of Bermuda’s future.”
The Government spokesperson said, “Registration is free. To secure your spot and receive the webinar link, email mbiadillah@gov.bm by January 10, 2025, at 2:00 PM.”

Oh, boy, oh boy! More unaccredited videos to support another failed Government initiative. FYI – you will find better information by watching YouTube videos without having to wait a month between videos.
“Don’t miss the opportunity to discover why FinTech is a cornerstone of Bermuda’s future.” It’s a good thing I was not drinking anything when I read that! What happened to all those new fintech companies that registered in Bermuda? There was pretty much zero job creation as they are paper companies with employees working overseas. Several have gone under, several have not renewed their domicile papers. The remaining companies will just dry up and disappear.
FYI – “fintech” has been around for decades. All we see today is more spin on old technology.
Does the Burt government and EDD still pushing this Fintech dream? How many years and how much money has been spent on this now?
Heres an ide, how bout you all put a little effort into the Casino Gaming or closethat down too!
Jokers!
Why is this a webinar? Why not host it at Sankofa House (formerly, Victoria Hall)?
And why does the Government website (https://www.landvaluation.bm/) list every floor of Sankofa House as “Commercial (Unusable)” with an ARV of $0?
Good catch!
Just wondering if anyone can confirm:
1) If I dont have a tenant in my apartment (building) do I not have to pay land tax?
2) If I have an apartment / building due to be renovated do I not have to pay land tax for that period?
3) If I am in the procecess of selling my home / building, do I not have to pay land tax?
Just wondering if any of the above scenarious would be a loophole being used for someone not paying any landtax? Surely, the government did not willing include in the original Arbitrade agreement a clause stating that they would be ARV exempt? Or is this an error on the landvaluation website?
