The 2025 Tiger Clash Taekwondo Tournament, hosted by Champion Taekwondo Academy, was an electrifying display of martial arts excellence, featuring 63 competitors and over 250 spectators.

A spokesperson said, “This year’s event highlighted the incredible talent within Bermuda’s Taekwondo community and showcased the next generation of martial arts champions.

“One of the most outstanding performances of the day came from Warwick Academy’s Morgan Patel, who dominated the competition with three gold medals in Poomsae [Forms], Kyokpa [Board Breaking], and Kyorugi [Sparring]. His dedication, precision, and determination earned him the title of Outstanding Athlete of the Tournament.

“A show-stopping moment came in the Board Breaking [Kyokpa] division, where Elliot Primary’s Jai Burgess-Shakir left the crowd in awe with a jaw-dropping 360° aerial hook kick to claim gold. His agility and technical execution demonstrated the high level of skill being developed in Bermuda’s young martial artists.

“Among the competitors, a special mention goes to Ryu Johnson, the youngest participant at just 2 years old. Despite her age, Ryu showcased her functional Taekwondo skills with confidence and determination, impressing the audience. As the daughter of Master Edmond Johnson, her participation highlights the deep-rooted tradition and future of martial arts within the community.

A Day of High-Level Competition

“The Poomsae [Forms] division saw incredible performances, with gold medalists including Cyre’ Trott, Maximilian Posthumus, and Xao Coddington, who displayed flawless technique and discipline.

“The Kyokpa [Board Breaking] division brought thrilling displays of power and precision. Citayo Outerbridge, Hyze Boyle, and Jahzi Swan executed incredible breaks, but it was Jai Burgess-Shakir’s aerial hook kick that truly stole the show.

“The Kyorugi [Sparring] division featured fast-paced, hard-fought matches, with Cyre’ Trott, Quinton Burgess, and Jahzi Swan securing gold in their respective categories. Young competitors such as Royal Trott-Guerrero and Morgan Patel showcased the depth of talent within the Taekwondo community.
