Field Hockey: Venezuela Defeat Bermuda

Bermuda’s men’s field hockey team faced Venezuela in their third match of the Central American and Caribbean [CAC] Games Qualifying Tournament in Mexico and were defeated 3-0.

Bermuda’s starting lineup included Justin Dill, Nathan Bothello, Alexander Godet, Gareth Tavares, Makie DeSouza, Hemijah Bean, Donovan Simmons, Jonah Trott, Rees Young, Jordache Rawson, and Sven Curley. Substitutes for Bermuda were Aizaya Smith, Aaron Madeiros, Xyaire Smith, Isaac Davis, Richard Minors, and Owen Curley.

Venezuela’s starting lineup consisted of Gilber Aguilar, Eliver Mujica, Ervis Peraza, Anderson Antique, Nelson Alvarez, Jesus Salazar, Cristian Vargas, Raudin Simanca, Rafael Salazar, Elian Jimenez, and Julian Peraza. Venezuela’s substitutes were Simón Carrera, Cristian Gomez, Yanier Velasquer, Yeiver Lopez, and Jhonny De La Torre.

Venezuela took an early lead in the 5th minute when Cristian Vargas converted a penalty stroke. Nelson Alvarez extended Venezuela’s advantage to 2-0 in the 28th minute.

Despite Bermuda’s efforts in the third period to reduce the deficit, the Venezuelan defense held firm. Vargas scored his second goal in the 49th minute from open play, securing the 3-0 victory for Venezuela.
