Petition Calls For Referendum On CARICOM
A petition has been launched calling on the Government of Bermuda to hold a referendum on whether the island should apply for full membership in CARICOM.
The petition, which is shown as being started by Daniel Marshall 20 hours ago, states, “We, the registered voters of Bermuda, call upon the Government of Bermuda to hold a clear yes-or-no referendum as soon as possible on whether Bermuda should apply to become a full member of the Caribbean Community [CARICOM].
“This is a matter of major national importance. Full membership in CARICOM will have long-term implications for Bermuda’s economy, constitutional position, international relationships, immigration and labour framework, public finances, and the future direction of our country.
“Many Bermudians have valid questions and concerns about the proposal. These concerns should not be dismissed, minimised, or treated as opposition for opposition’s sake. They deserve to be taken seriously, answered clearly, and placed before the people in a democratic vote.
“We therefore respectfully demand that the Government of Bermuda hold a referendum asking Bermudian voters whether Bermuda should proceed with an application for full membership in CARICOM. Before making a decision, please read The Story of Us, the Green Paper released by the Government of Bermuda outlining what full CARICOM membership would entail. Please consider the implications thoroughly, including the impact this decision may have on Bermudian citizens.
“Petition Demand: I am a registered voter in Bermuda, and I demand that the Government hold a yes-or-no referendum as soon as possible on the issue of whether Bermuda should apply to become a full member of CARICOM.”

Why waste time on a referendum. If the vote goes against being part of Caricum, which I hope it does, Blurt will make sure it goes ahead.
That being said, whoever is the next Premier or the premier after that or after that would then have the opportunity to say to the people never voted for it so we are out.
“This is about self-determination and economic survival.”
The speech focuses heavily on practical, everyday benefits: driving down grocery and goods prices through regional competition, expanding professional training, and finding new markets. By presenting this text, you seem to be saying that full membership isn’t just a sentimental nod to Caribbean heritage—it is a calculated strategic move to lower the cost of living and give the average Bermudian (“What’s in it for me?”) better economic mobility.
Burt has already established himself as the worst Premier Bermuda has ever had. He has surpassed DrEB, and that is really saying something.
Who in 1998 could have imagined Bermuda in 2026 being where it is today, up to our eyeballs in debt sitting on an island that has been left to rot while leaders jet around the world to attend cocktail parties at places like Caricom?
Worst Premier was Dunkley and party is the obaUBP. Now go change the name again.
You do know what is said about people and their opinions don’t you?
The powers that be have already made the decision. Just like they always do.
LOL the second longest Premier. How could he be sooo bad yet no one can get rid of him??! lol.
A referendum is not necessary. They were elected to govern, so go ahead a govern!
The man could literally burn the island down in front of your very eyes and you’d still be cheering him on with your cartoonishly biased one-note opinions.
Being elected to govern doesn’t give the government of the day carte blanche to ram a decision like this down everyone’s throats without public consent and following due process.
That’s authoritarianism, not democracy.
“It’s a done deal”. “This too shall pass”.
Sound familiar?
“We don’t care what you think”.
“It’s a done deal”. “This too shall pass”.

“We don’t care what you think”.
What about “We had to deceive you”?
