Commissioner of the Bermuda Police Service Darrin Simons has been elected President of the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police [ACCP] for the 2025–2026 term.
A police spokesperson said, “His appointment was confirmed during the 39th Annual General Meeting and Conference held from May 12–16 at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre in Georgetown, Guyana.
“As the new ACCP President, Commissioner Simons now oversees a strengthened regional commitment to transforming Caribbean security through integrated strategies. Under his leadership, the ACCP will advance a suite of key initiatives aimed at improving law enforcement coordination, officer wellbeing, and public trust.”
“Bermuda stands to benefit significantly from the broader mission of the ACCP. The organization fosters collaboration and cooperation in the development and implementation of policing strategies, systems, and procedures that are responsive to shared regional challenges,” said Commissioner Simons.
He added, “It also promotes the professional and technical skills development of police officers, encourages proactive measures to prevent crime, and strengthens police-community relations—ensuring that Bermuda remains aligned with best practices across the region.”
The spokesperson said, “Among the priorities under his purview are:
Gun and Gang Violence Mitigation:
“A regional resolution focused on enhancing intelligence sharing to track the movement of dangerous individuals and firearms across borders, while maintaining a strong commitment to human rights and community protection.
Officer Mental Health and Wellness:
“Expansion of mental health and peer support programs across member states, including early intervention strategies and cross-border sharing of best practices to ensure officers are psychologically equipped to serve.
Standardized Response to Domestic Abuse:
“Implementation of uniform training standards and victim support protocols, ensuring consistent and effective policing responses to domestic abuse throughout the Caribbean.
Advancement of Women in Policing:
“Promotion of safe, equitable work environments through confidential reporting systems, career progression frameworks, and mentorship programs to empower female officers.
“Commissioner Simons now leads these efforts under the conference’s guiding theme, United in Action, Transformed in Purpose: Building an Integrated Caribbean Security Architecture.”
He stated, “It is an honour to serve as President of the ACCP during a time when regional unity and collaboration are more important than ever. These initiatives represent our collective commitment to protecting our communities, supporting our officers, and modernizing the way we police across the Caribbean. Our objective is to build safe communities through shared responsibility, innovation, and purpose-driven leadership.”
