Tennis Team Compete In Dominican Republic

Bermuda’s under-12 boys’ tennis team delivered a competitive performance in their opening match of the 2025 International Tennis Federation [ITF]/COTECC Sub Region 3 tournament in the Dominican Republic, narrowly falling 2-1 to Puerto Rico after a series of tightly contested three-set matches.

Led by captain Evan Heyliger, the team featured Trystan Thompson, Oliver Anderson, and Manuel Maldonado. Thompson gave Bermuda an early advantage with a comeback win over Jose Juan Betancourt, securing a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory.

Maldonado faced Francisco Perez in the second singles match and took the opening set 6-0 before Perez responded to win the next two sets 6-3, 6-3, evening the tie at 1-1.

Anderson and Maldonado paired up in the deciding doubles match against Perez and Betancourt. The Bermudians claimed the first set 6-3, but Puerto Rico rallied to win the second set 6-3 and edged the match with a 10-7 tiebreak in the third.
