NMB To Host Free Community Day On Feb 22
The National Museum of Bermuda [NMB] will be hosting a free Community Day on Sunday [Feb 22] sponsored by RenaissanceRe and Butterfield.
A spokesperson said, “The National Museum of Bermuda [NMB] is hosting its annual Community Day on Sunday, 22 February 2026. This free, family-friendly celebration will feature food vendors, door prizes, cannon fire and a wide range of hands-on activities and performances designed to bring the community together while encouraging deeper engagement with Bermuda’s history and culture. Sponsored by RenaissanceRe and Butterfield, Community Day is a signature event within NMB’s Free for February, which offers all Bermuda residents free admission to the Museum throughout the entire month.”
NMB Executive Director Elena Strong shared: “At NMB, we strive to be an essential community education resource, one that sparks curiosity, inspires discovery, and encourages people of all ages to explore Bermuda’s history and heritage. We hope everyone will take advantage of the free, fun-filled Community Day at NMB, made possible through the generous support of our sponsors, vendors, and community partners. We look forward to welcoming the community to Dockyard this weekend to explore, learn, and connect through the National Museum.”
The spokesperson said, “Community Day activities will run from 10am to 3pm, and the Museum will remain free for all visitors, both residents and tourists, from 10:00 am to 5pm.
“This year’s programme blends cultural celebration, hands-on learning and artistic expression. The day will begin with a yoga class led by Lisa Wingood, followed by engaging art activities with artists and educators Jake Commandeur and Shanna Hollis, and corn husk doll making with Janet DeBraga. Visitors can also enjoy artist talks by Graham Foster, creator of the Hall of History, and Larry Mills’ insights and knowledge on local masonary techniques and architecture relating to John Gardner’s STONE : From Bermuda to Charleston exhibit. Performances by the St. David’s Islanders and Native Community and the Gombeys will bring energy and tradition to the celebration, closing out the day’s festivities.
“New additions this year include participation from the Bermuda Classic Bike Club who will be showcasing their collection of classic bikes, a performance by the Royal Bermuda Regiment Band & Corps of Drums, a photography workshop led by local artist Aderonke Wilson, inspired by NMB’s Grundy Youth Photography Competition and The National Youth Library’s Marla Smith will lead a special Storytime session. Honouring Bermuda’s maritime heritage, the team from Endeavour will host a knot-tying activity connected to the Museum’s historic collections. Additional highlights include cannon firings at noon and two demonstrations by Dolphin Quest.
“Butterfield & Vallis will generously provide free water while supplies last, and FourWays will offer complimentary beef and vegetarian chili in Commissioner’s House. Dockyard Brewing will serve samples of their locally crafted beers and provide complimentary coffee while supplies last. A selection of food vendors, including T’s Homestyle, Duch Pops, Top Dog, Ashley’s Lemonade, and Bermuda Cupcake Company, will offer food and drinks for purchase in the Keep Yard. Visitors are encouraged to bring both cash and card.
