28 Yr Old Man Arrested: Drugs, Cash & Gun

January 11, 2011

A 28 year old Pembroke man was arrested on January 8th after Police officers found suspected crack cocaine, cannabis, a large quantity of cash and a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol. This is the third firearm seized by Police since the last week of December 2010.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Officer in Charge of the Serious Crime Unit, said “The Bermuda Police Service can confirm the arrest of a 28 year old male from Pembroke Parish for Firearms & Drugs offences.

“Police firearms officers executed a search warrant at a Pembroke residence during the evening of Saturday 8th January, 2011. The investigation is being led by the Serious Crime & Drugs Units of the Bermuda Police Service.

  1. Bernman says:

I know finally people are get some backbone and speaking up!

  2. JT says:

i wonder what happens to all these handguns once the perp is prosecuted…do they get melted down or something.

  3. Tigga says:

Well done BPS! Now – time to get proper legislation in place to increase penalties for possessing firearms at the same time as drugs.

  4. Terry says:

Oh “JT” please. The Police go to heads of Gangs and make an offer.$20,000 per gun. Jingus no overtime. (jk!)

  5. enough says:

    Great job Bermuda Police Service!!
Where are the usual suspects who always slag them off….???

  6. Common Sense says:

With regard to the query from JT, I do believe that the Police eventually destroy weapons they have seized by disabling them and then dumping them at sea in very deep water.

It is good news that the Police are making progress in finding these illegal firearms and winning successful cases in the courts. Yes, Bernman, it appears that public opinion is finally changing and people are providing the Police with good information leading to these arrests which make our streets safer for all of us.

It’s tragic to see young men having to spend many years in jail, but right now the message has to be very loud and very clear – when you commit a gun-related crime, you will have to serve one hellova lot of time!

  7. Realist says:

The topic of discussion appears to be the fact a firearm has been reprimanded. Is anyone aware of the fact that it is an ongoing war in the city of Hamilton. However, when the police are working for those that bring agony and bloodshed to ppl WHAT ELSE ARE YOU LEFT TO DO. I mean if someone is out to shoot me I will not be at ease especially if the government does nothing to stop the wicked ppl destroying our country!

There is always more than one side to a story!

And further the comment about having backbone is plain ignorant!!! If you lived the life of a street kid you would know different so pipe down and know your facts idiot!

THERE ARE TOO MANY SNAKES IN THE GRASS!!

Too the 28 year old held in custody hold your head up blood Jah knows and he doesn’t sleep.

Hello the same thing that happens to the un-integral police officers who confiscate drugs for the line of justice who however live in houses way beyond the means of the job!! Put 2 and two together! Wake up Bermuda” the good guys get targeted whilst the bad guys roam!! These are serious times!!!!

    OVER AND OUT BUBBLES!

    • Andrew says:

Lived the life of a street kid?? In Bermuda? Are you serious??

You do NOT have life tough, stop thinking you do, and stop thinking you are some kind of gangster. You are not!

      • bermyshotta says:

@ Andrew. Stop with all the assumptions. Have you been in Realist’ shoes? nah don’t think so….lemme assume here: go back to ya posh desk at an exempt company

        • Tired of nonsense says:

You must be the only streed kid in the world that has access to a computer and the time to blog about your so called “hardships.” Try Cuba. There you will meet true street kids.

  8. Realist says:

It’s a shame people with good intentions are scape goats and the idiots destroying our country stay on the block with crack cocaine and heroine for sale yet the police within the area of these men refuse to do nothing but sit in their cars CHILLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If an area is known to be be filled with drug activity than why is it that the police sit out Court Street for the entire day but don’t reprimand young man who sit out from 6am until….like hello the writing is on the wall. They aren’t there for their good health! I’ve seen it for myself BERMUDA IS GOING TO THE DOGS THE WICKED PROSPER~!! Thank GOD, GOD IS THE ALMIGHTY who holds us accordindinly to our convictions

    • S Brown says:

Simple, because if police start interrogating these men on a frequent basis, the public will complain about police harassment, racial profiling etc…

Damned if you do damned if you don’t.

    • Lissa says:

Didnt they catch the guy with suspected crack cocaine. And the guys on the street dont normally keep the stash in their possesion do they.?

    • Mack says:

One has to question WHY other people are out there wanting to shoot someone if they feels they have to carry a gun….and about the “wicked people” you are refering too, [idenfying details removed]. I wonder what you will be saying if the gun they found is linked to murders and shootings of others…really sounds like a self defence arguement can be made on that. See if you still go with your line of “government does nothing to stop the wicked people destroying our country”. And you also go on about the block being filled with crack…well, take a wild guess at what they found…

  9. Realist says:

Police harassmnent! The police NEED to be harressing the block they stay on 24/7!!

Why is it that 2 murders and multiple shootings have occurred in specific areas yet the police who are posted with a military BUS on Court Street where many violations have occured implement no arrest on those that destroy our community in many ways. Yet still I haven’t seen one person held up for the suspicsion to sell illegal drugs.
IT’S A CONSPRIRACY!!!!!!!!!!!! WAKE UP BERMUDA!!

    • enough says:

I can unequivocally guarantee that these boys/men/idiots hanging on Court St/St. Monica’s Rd/Tribe Rd. 5/Cambridge Rd etc etc are contacted multiple times a day never mind a week or a month….ask them to show you how manny Stop/Search forms they have in their pockets.
The BPS NEEDS to do a better job of working out where the drugs are, how they are getting distributed because clearly small possession arrests and warrants etc isn’t a true refelction of what goes on in these areas and others.

  10. Keep him lock up and thru away the key???

  11. JT says:

so Realist “bigs” up somebody caught with a GUN CRACK and GANJA… I say you put the pipe down realist…spouting utter nonsense.

    • Agreed says:

JT I have to agree with you…I’m not sure where Realist is going with his/her comments. One minute [open quote] “Too the 28 year old held in custody hold your head up blood Jah knows and he doesn’t sleep” [close quote]….next minute he/she wants crackdown on streets!! makes no sense!!!

  12. Tigga says:

‘Too the 28 year old held in custody hold your head up blood Jah knows and he doesn’t sleep’

    lol – priceless!

  13. Downderoad says:

Well done BPS!!!! People the police is winning the war on drugs, & people are speaking out THAT’S REAL!!!!!!! Times are hard as it is, we can do without these guns on the streets.

  14. Triangle Drifter says:

Well done BPS. Lets see if the courts do their job next.

  15. True Dat says:

I am with the Realist!!!! They Know exactly what they are talking about!!! And the Rest of you are Clueless and Happy to keep your heads Stuck in the Sand!!! Damn Fools the lot of you!!!!!!
    He who feels Knows!!!
You all are a bunch of Jokers!!!!
    “Well done BPS”
    LMAO!!! Now thats priceless!!!

    • Lissa says:

To Tru Dat. Yes we may be clueless and happpy, but you have to understand that we can only comment on the story – as printed. Perhaps you can set up an open forum and clue us in. I am interested…

      • dummiez says:

well shut up if u really dnt kno ……, alllllllllllll u %$#$%lookin in from out.!!!!!

  16. FNClueless says:

    True Dat & Realist:

    1. There is no war going on in Hamilton. There are a bunch of wannabe gangsters who watch far too much tv runningaround shooting each other. There are wars going on all over the world and to call this silliness war is a disgrace to those who are actually fighting for what they believe in and those tragic individuals the world over who have suffered through conflict.

    2. The fact that you commend and commiserate with this idiot with the gun and drugs supports my argument in #1. Yet you complain that nothing is being done. If you care about your country and its people, you should be ecstatic about this arrest. You are symbolic of the problem we have in Bermuda.

    3. Crack and heroine are in more places than just the block – so dont be an ass.

    4. Street life in Bermuda?? Are you for real? You have no idea what real street life is.

    5. The BS story of cops in big houses never gets old. Stop trying to spin a rumour to account for someone who has worked hard and saved to progress. Give up on the attitude of entitlement and then you wont have to envy your neighbour.

    6. Just when I think you cant say someting stupider, you post something else.

    • Agreed says:

      AMEN!!!

    • dummiez says:

WTF DO U CALL WHEN PEOPLE R RUNNIN ROUND SHOOTING TRYING TO KILL OTHERS???????????? A ””””’WAR”"”"”"”"‘ !!!! “”"‘HE WHO FEELS IT KNOWS IT”"”"” IF U WAS A TARGET U WONT BE SAYIN HALF DA STUFF U SAYIN ITS A WAR GOIN ON OUTSIDE NOOOOO MAN IS SAFE FROM..

      • Realist says:

THank you very much enough said! Most of these comments are based on conceptions from people who have no idea they are on the outside looking in.

And no I am not justifying the 28yr old’s behaviour but at the same time he is a victim and the justice system has failed him and many other people who have been targeted.

So before all of you IDIOTS open your mouths be sure you know the facts of what’s going on in this country! AND YES THERE IS A WAR ONGOING IN HAMILTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • Truth says:

          ,,,again I say.

Ignorance begets ignorance. A man is caught with a loaded firearm, crack and weed and somehow he is the victim? I’ll tell you who the victim is. It is the children that criminals comes into contact with. Every young impressionable mind that criminals have led to believe that in the face of hardship we should resort to murder and drug dealing. The neighborhoods that criminals terrorize and posion with their drugs. The families that criminals sells drugs to that are shattered and broken as a result of it. Those children who were at Victor Scott who have the image burned in their young minds of a man being gunned down in front of them. Society is the victim. You were right about one thing. The Lord doesn’t sleep. We will all stand before him one day and give an account for the things done in this life. There are no excuses now for this …and there will be none then.

    • Downderoad says:

Yup, tell’em like it is Real Talk!!!!

  18. Lineage says:

REALIST AND ENOUGH…YOU’VE GOT MY VOTE! I am so looking forward to the day when the millionaire suppliers of weapons and hard drugs start getting caught and revealed. Just as its 2 sides to a story…THERE IS ALWAYS A BIGGER PICTURE!

    • Agreed says:

Lineaege…so what you, Realist and Enough are saying is forget the small man and only focus on the “millionaires?” The “street kid” isn’t doing anything wrong, just the big man with money, right?!

You’ve got to put the small pieces together to see the “bigger picture”

      • enough says:

I’ll speak for myself and say that narcotics interdiction has to be aimed at multiple levels. The weird dynamic in Bermuda as we have regularly seen is that people seldom ‘snitch’…so it’s hard to get someone with a poke of weed to tell police, with detail, who he got it from, go get them and so up the ladder…that’s far easier when buyers can remain anonymous from sellers through the size of the population.
Someone below mentioned Op Cleansweep. I wasn’t in Bermuda at that time and it seemed hugely successful at targeting street level dealers and when the ladder was being climbed, suddenly it started hitting too close to home for the powers that be that HAVE to be involved actively or by turning a blind eye to the importing of drugs to this island.
When I tell people that this island is 21sq miles, 65k population, more police per capita than most of the rest of the world and yet riddled with drugs and addicts, they find it in equal measures to be tragic, comedic and highly suspicious.
Yes, the systems for identifying drugs are years behind where they should be, but they are coming (docks Xrays) but if you’re telling me that some very senior folks are not paid to be blind or go way for 30 minutes, I’d call you a bold faced liar or an idiot.
What happened at the end of the Police Commissioner’s tenure during Cleansweep (Coxall) speaks volumes really. Scroll to Chapter 11 (although for those unaware, the Middleton expose is almost beyond belief).
        http://books.google.com/books?id=QO072yYC50gC&pg=PA81&lpg=PA81&dq=colin+coxall,+cleansweep&source=bl&ots=qFrz7rMraT&sig=OMhgy9sYhVTJ4hQN9WQh3P1YoGU&hl=en&ei=1AQuTbeoLIGC8gaKwL3iCQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=5&ved=0CCoQ6AEwBA#v=onepage&q=colin%20coxall%2C%20cleansweep&f=false
Drugs have to come in my air or by sea…fact, done, end of…..and we can’t stop it….smacks of not wanting to do it.

    • where's central? says:

just fyi.. in case you didnt know.. the big shot “millionaires” are indeed big shot “millionaires” because they are higher up and protected.. sometimes iwth fall guys and soldiers…. you have to catch the littles guys to get the big ones. Can’t build a house by starting with the roof.

    • bermyshotta says:

@Lineage – an ain’t it gonna be funny when people realize who dey are and what they really do. hahahahaha

      • Scott says:

and trust me there IF that every happened, you’d find a lot of people happy with it… not upset.

I dont care how high/rich/famous/politcal these fat cats are… if they get busted i wanna see’m go down.

  19. Terry says:

    It’s all the UBP’s fault.

  20. True Dat says:

to all of you clueless ones!!!!
this situation is nothing that has developed overnite
this thing is way bigger then the guys getting caught with guns and drugs
    check it out
    for what it really is
while everyone is so focused on the street guys,
guns and drugs are still entering into our islands at alarming rates!!!
    do you know why?
Because it big money in it!!
Bermuda is a very tiny place
it isn’t anyway that you are going to convince me, that this isn’t a mega conspriracey!!
and all that ray ray about you have to catch the little men to get to the big one trash!!!!
Remember this: see all these neighbourhoods where there is concentrated violence
these properties have been sought after by certain groups and individuals for many years… the owners would not sell!! So now they are being forced out by violence, being forced to sell their property for way less than it’s really worth!!
Don’t sleep People the powers that be have an agenda!!!!
And they don’t care about you or me!
PS.FYI: The UBP The PLP and all the other political parties all come under the same umbrella :) Don’t be fooled

  21. True Dat says:

    To FN CLUELESS
You need to sit down and check this thing out from the beginning.
Dig into your history: And Check out Operation CLeanSweep remember that??????

    • FNClueless says:

True Dat – There’s nothing you can tell me about any of this stuff – I have forgotten more than you will ever know…..

  22. It Is What It Is? says:

Lineage & where’s central..I am with you on this..everyone wants to look at the “thugs”, wanna be gang bangers, Hoodlums, ruffians, etc and all the other names that they are referred to as…A blind eye is often turned, or no one wants to hear if you mention, “the fronters” of the funds or in this case the big shot “millionaires”

Somebody is putting up the money to get the goods and paying money to ensure that they reach our shores safely..somehwere along the line they are getting some form of assistance and folks are being paid…and than when you look “the goods”end up .in the hands of our little lovelies on the streets……There are many “Big Fish” out in the sea..the ones being caught are the “minnows” (the blittlefish per say)..This is something SOME validity..maybe not all but there definetly are incidents to which this applies..unfortunately we are unable to name names..Some of the “Heads” are aware of this taking money under the table …and I’m sure it will be revealed as all good things come to an end eventually! so don’t act like it doesn’t happen because it does..

@ Lissa as it relates to this article..it’s a lot more to it then meets the eye..So not allowed to say..but eventually it wll be revealed..

@ Bernman…I guess hooray that you feel that people are coming forward..but just a quick question if I may..are they coming forward out of the goodness of their heart because they are sick and tired of what is happening on our island and they want peace or are they giving information to get a lesser sentence (plea bargaining?)..Not allowed to give details of this either..

@ Agreed…there would be NO little fish if there were no big fish…..

@ BPS Yes I give credit where credit is due (even though you have let me down in the past)but you know among you there are some SNAKES in the grass…I know that there may be some officers who comment on this site disguised under “pen names” as they do on other sites..But please don’t get offended if none of the above refers to you…It may not be you..but it could be your partner…

    Just my opinion……

  23. Uncle Ruckus says:

Tru Dat and Realist are a bunch of jokers. Stop posting in here all the time talking about a conspiracy and being so vague. How about you pick up the phone and inform the police since you know so much. Didn’t think so. Live by the gun die by the gun. No one FORCES you into that lifestyle. I feel nothing for these imbeciles who want to live thug life on an island as small as Bermuda. No reason in Bermuda you have to be a “street kid”. Now THAT is funny!

    • dummiez says:

      @ UNCLE RUCKUS…………… DNT BECOME A TARGET.!!!!!! :X

    • Realist says:

      You sound ignorant and foolish!!

So I will assume you own your own home have sent your children to college and live very comfortably HOWEVER for the average bermudian who works x amount of jobs yet still has difficulty in making ends meet may resort to other ways of maintaining their living.

Of which selling drugs may be a potential option and most people that sell drugs are posted on the streets…CORRECT?! Your an idiot!!

      • Uncle Ruckus says:

Wrong. I don’t have a house and I don’t have children but I struggle like everyone else does. My parents struggled as well and I mean STRUGGLE! Scrambling to figure out how we are going to eat and deciding on which bill to pay and which one not to. NEVER did they go out on the corner and sell drugs. They took extra jobs and worked hard! Please save me the BS because I know all about it. I’m tired of the excuses and they aren’t even good ones.

  24. True Dat says:

Uncle Ruckus You Poor poor Lost soul…
You really have no Idea… and thats ok, you are just a victim of the matrix like so many others (smh) sad sad sad….:(

    • Uncle Ruckus says:

The only lost soul is you condoning this mess. Please save me your Illuminati, conspiracy psycho-babble. I know all about that as well. Look in the mirror. The only one trapped in the matrix is you. You are doing exactly what they want. I took my red pill already.

@dummiez lol you can’t be serious

  25. the root of it all says:

point fingers and propose theories of ‘who is to blame’ ALL NIGHT LONG. know where it gets you? nowhere. i guess it makes for interesting discussions, but that’s it.

know this though- when you start throwing the name of God around and say ‘He doesn’t sleep’…you’re absolutely right. however don’t try to justify the criminal lifestyle of one person because of the wrong doings (or alleged wrong doings) of other people.

if there are people ‘higher up’ who are doing worse (no doubt, that happens in some instances) and if there are people fueling and feeding this violence….again, ‘God does not sleep’! but DO NOT use His name unless you understand what you’re saying. anyone who thinks they can stand before God on judgement day and say “i did wrong, but it’s because other people were doing worse” is sorely mistaken. every man and woman will stand before God and give an account of THEIR OWN lives. there will be no finger pointing or “yeah well, what had happened was….” stories. it’s you and nobody else on that day.

it may work in magistrates court, but in the court of the Almighty there are no ‘guilty with an explanation’ situations where you get excused for YOUR wrongs. you will be standing before the perfect and righteous creator of all. you really think you’ll be able to justify your wrong doings then? you think you can bring up somebody else and explain why you did wrong and try to justify it? nah boss- check yourself. it’s only YOU who control your eternal destiny and if you choose to point fingers, blame the system, or try to highlight someone else’s wrongs to justify your own, you’re in big trouble. you’ll have no lawyer and no sympathetic judge- you will be judged by God’s perfect standard to which none of us could ever live up to. he is perfect and just and will judge in righteousness. You had better stop playing the victim role and let Jesus stand in your place on judgement day, since he already paid the fine for you. all you have to do is accept his gift to you and stop living a life that disgraces his love and sacrifice for you.

we all fall short of the glory of God but every day we get up we must die to him and lean on him. if you get caught up in the criminal underworld, you’ll perish either now or on judgement day. the real culprit is the god of this world- satan. and too many are falling into his traps. free up yourself and cast off the bondage of sin and God will see you through whatever circunstances are out there.

    • Truth says:

      Amen. Amen. Amen.

    • bda stop lyin to yoself!! says:

Amen @ root of it all!!! The WORD says that a wise man foresees the evil and avoids it but a fool keeps going toward it. It also says that if you rebuke a wise or righteous man he will receive it and heed it but a fool wont listen and will be beaten with many a stripe and you’ll have to deliver a fool over and over again! Let’s see how many of your readers are fools and how many are wise!!!

  26. wow! says:

I assume you have stood in God’s courtroom before, all this yadayada. No one in this world knows what will happen at the end of it all. It’s a shame , you may be greatly disappointed with the end result of what the old faithful book has written.
With that said this young boy was wrong every thing that was allegedly found in his possesion has the ability to destroy lives. How bout i know him very well and i still do not agree with it one bit. Supporting someone like this is crazy so just ……. STOP IT.!!!!

    • the root of it all says:

may i assume you don’t believe in God or in an afterlife…?

hypothetically speaking, if i’m wrong about those 2 things it won’t matter- i’ll cease to exist and just be dirt in the ground. if you’re wrong, your mistake will have eternal consequences.

don’t let religious hypocrites turn you off the most important thing in life. i know this happened to me at one point in my life and it happens to many others. i encourage you to seriously consider eternal things with an open mind and softened heart.

  27. Wow! says:

Sorry i knew this would have offended someone, but the fact remains that the truth is truth and it’s always an offence!! I own a beautiful spirit and soul and frankly i don’t believe that a book justifies this. Please bring proof to the table of someone you have spoken to in the AFTERLIFE and we can go from…. I know right from wrong it dwells within. Have a beautiful day!!!!!

  28. the root of it all says:

you didn’t offend me my friend. the truth is the truth, you’re absolutely right. and you’re right again- God gave us all a conscience to know right from wrong; it does dwell within. i don’t find your logic compelling though, as you can’t prove that your philosophy is right either. you’re putting your faith in your own logic and hoping that you’re right. i’m curious to know your answer- do you believe in God? atheist? agnostic? i know many people that don’t believe in god but not because they CAN’T but because they WON’T- the consequences of His existence are terrifying and offensive to them.

however just suppose for a moment that you have to stand before a perfect and Holy God on judgment day. if you are going to be judged by his perfect standard, meaning perfection in thought, word, and deeds, how do you think you would fare? would you be innocent or guilty?

again, if you don’t believe this will happen then you could be totally unprepared for the only moment in your existence that truly matters IF it is true. if it is not, you will have lost nothing. but are you seriously willing to take that gamble? if you take it and you’re wrong, what then? will you tell God that you’ve lived a life guided by your conscience and that should be good enough?
take yourself through the 10 commandments and see if you’ve satisfied them all. ever lied? cheated? stolen anything? lusted after another? God is perfect and he says if you’ve done these things, there are eternal consequences. the wages of sin is eternal death but the gift of God is eternal life. he would not be a fair judge if he did not uphold the law. given that NOBODY can fulfill these laws and nobody is without sin, we would all be doomed on judgment day. however God sent his Son to take the punishments for our sin, and to fulfill his Holy laws.

i know, it causes great offence to consider that your way of life is sinful and displeasing to God. as humans we cling to our sin and do not want to consider there is a God and we will be held accountable for our lives on this earth, judged by his perfect standard. i would encourage you to very seriously consider these things and think deeply on them. no man can justify himself before the almighty. if you are judged by God’s perfect standard you (and me) will be guilty on judgment day. this should concern you and i would hope you seriously consider the consequences of being wrong in your beliefs about the afterlife.
