India Film Institute Scholarship Launched

logo_WhistlingWoodsThe National Training Board [NTB], within the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has announced the launch of the Whistling Woods International Scholarship which will be available for two Bermudian students, and offer them the chance to study in India.

In February 2010 the Bermuda Government and Whistling Woods International Ltd. Institute for Film, Animation, & Media Arts signed a Memorandum of Understanding [MOU] detailing the Bermuda Government’s interest in developing a relationship with India and its creative arts industry institutes.

In accordance with the MOU Whistling Woods International would provide the opportunity for students from Bermuda interested in pursuing a career in Film, Television and Animation to study under the same terms as Indian students.

The scholarship winners will also receive special incentives from the institute including a Mac laptop, library fees and other supplies.

Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kim Wilson said, “This is an excellent opportunity for two Bermudian students to study at one of the premier international film institutes and allowing them a once in a lifetime chance to network with other students from around the world.”

Whistling Woods International is Asia’s largest Film, Television, Animation and Media Arts institute. The campus is based in Mumbai’s Film & Television Production centre Filmcity, and offers courses that vary in duration from 10 months to 30 months, both full-time and part time in nature.

All major specializations of the Media & Entertainment industry are catered to, including Acting, Animation, Cinematography, Direction, Editing, Producing, and Screenwriting.

Almost 15% of their student body comprises of International students from countries like US, Canada, UK, Germany, Italy, France, Mauritius and many more. More detailed information can be found on their website.

The Bermuda Government has established a scholarship fund under the NTB for up to two Bermudian students for two years to pursue their education in India. The scholarship will allow students to commence study for the July 2011 semester. The scholarship will cover tuition and boarding only, students will incur any other expenses.

Applications will be available from the National Training Board’s office and website beginning today [May 26] and must be completed with all relevant documents by June 10, 2011. The recipients will be notified by June 27, 2011 of their successful applications.

The Scholarship covers tuition, housing  and related expenses valued at 1,300,000 INR [$29,000] for two years.
