18-Yr-Old Attacked By Group Of Men
An 18-year-old man is recuperating in hospital after being assaulted by a group of men while walking on Washington Street this past Saturday [July 16].
The victim is said to have attended an event correlated with the Evolution fashion show, and is said to have had his jaw broken and underwent surgery.
A Police spokesman said, “At 12:30pm on Saturday, police received a report of an assault. It appears that sometime between 2am and 2:30am that day the victim, an 18 year old Pembroke man, was walking along Washington Street in Pembroke accompanied by friends when he was assaulted by a group of young men.”
“As a result the Pembroke man was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. He is currently recovering on a general ward. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.”
Karim:
Hope you get well soon. You were missed at the Fashion Show. The tribute to you was awesome. Trust the Police will catch the animals that attacked you. Blessings.
I hope they catch these thugs.
Wow that 18 year old must be one tuff dude.. It takes a gang of cowardly punks to take him down.. I hope you chickens are proud of yourselfs.
Karim I pray for your quick recovery. You were truly missed at the Fashion Show. I hope the police catch these cowards soon. It sickens me to my core to hear of positive young men who are doing something with their lives being senselessly attacked.
What you should have prayed for was his safety. I guess Jesus was to busy at that time. Oh and praying is not going to quicken his recovery. Try dealing with a doctor for that.
Stop lingering
My God what is wrong with our childern for real am i reading this right one boy and a group of boys needed to fight him . Boys stop wanting to be a ganget and get book smart so when you grow up and move out of your moma’s house you can get a good job and make something of your self . Your friends will lead you into troble and be the first one to send you down the river even if you did’nt do anything you were there so you are a part of it . Please children wake you before it’s too late and you end up West Gate or DEAD. this is not cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope I am reading you wrong when you say “even if you didn’t do anything you were there so you are a part of it.”
My 17 year-old grandson was one of those walking with him when they were attacked, not by men, but by five or six boys who were younger than them. We later learned they were affiliated with the Parkside gang. Since my grandson is a visitor here and he is a very positive, upstanding young man, neither one of them can be assumed to be affiliated with any gang.
Those thugs hit my grandson in the back of the head, ripped off his silver cross and chain, hit him on his cheek bone and his mouth before chasing him all the way from Mt. St. Agnes, along Dundonald Street and out to Woodlands Road before doubling back to attack him. My grandson told me those young thugs tried to claim ownership of the street and wanted to exact a monetary penalty for walking in “their area.” I was incensed!! There should be NO part of Bermuda that we cannot walk freely.
I am advocating for the Government to adopt Canada’s automatic 12-15 year automatic sentence with no parole just for gang affiliation, consecutive with sentencing for whatever other crime committed. When you know you are likely to spend no less than 12 years in jail plus another 5 or 6 for theft and/or GBH and/or whatever else, I think there’ll be second and third thoughts about some of this criminal behavior.
What I like about Canada’s initiative is that the length of sentence can also be used as a bargaining chip to break the gang mentality. The sentence can be plea bargained and witness protection overseas offered if the perpetrator gives evidence against gang leaders. Betcha we’d get some action that way!
Seconded
Thanks, Bernews, for removing the young man’s name from my post, but it changed the sense of some of the sentences. My grandson’s friend is a “positive, upstanding young man.” The thugs doubled back after they couldn’t catch my grandson to attack his friend.
What u mean stop lingering. This is a free country. Here we have a young man doing something positive and he gets attacked by some low life punk thugs. I hope they are caught and brought to City Hall in front of the public and flogged. Because of these fools he missed the fashion show on Saturday night. A very moving tribute to him, brought tears to my eyes. Hope you have a speedy recovery
That’s just an ignorant statement to make. Trust let this be my son ……straight up I’m handling it myself. What have we come to when our young people have to walk on a certain street in order not to be attacked. I pray you little thugs choose the right child whose mama anmd/or daddy beat the hell outta you ….then you can STOP LINGERING!!!!!!!
Hope you get well soon Chea..
Hi , All. I am never sure whether to go to Comment! But — Syl, I agree , but you have to prove it and you have seen what has happened recently !! Love – I think that there is no chance of the Stocks being moved from St. Geo.But, if we all club together perhaps we could set one up before the next fashion show at City Hall. ( or maybe Back of Town ) Was none of this caught on CCtv ?????? This beautiful little Island is rapidly going down the drain, unless we ALL !! get together to eradicate it. I am are really looking forward to Cup Match – just to see what next ignorance, from a mindless minority ,goes unpunished and ruins all for everyone. I do hope that the victims will heal and that the thugs get their due reward !
Let these punks keep going with this nonsense….you little freaks better start looking over your back!I’m getting fed up with you all………………………..
This is the bit that mystifies me and is something I think Jonathon Smith should take a look at. It wasn’t in the report, but not one of those kids who were attacked thought to call 911, even though they all had cell phones!!
I asked my grandson why he called him mom first instead of the police and he said “What’s the point? They always come late. They just hang about in the Police Station” I gather this is how most of his friends view the BPS too. What has caused our youth – the teen-agers – to become so cynical?
I know my first instinct is to call the Police, and I believe it is the same for the 3-7 year olds. Sadly, the perception that the police ‘always come late’ is shared by several of the people I talked to. I was told it took 40 minutes for the police to arrive at a Mangrove Bay incident earlier this year, and the Police Station is 2 minutes away from Mangrove Bay. I was told that every time one enters the police station, it is full of officers ‘lollygagging’ instead of being out on patrol. I believe this is gross exaggeration I was told even worse allegations about police connections with the gangs.
I don’t know how to separate truth from fiction, but perception is what drives people’s opinions and, more to the point, their actions. The police (who I admire and respect for the most part, and who respond promptly to my 911 calls) might benefit from an internal review.
These lil losers need a gooooood beating!!!! When i say beating i mean BEATING not with a belt neither! its too much of these kids… Who gives them the right to just attack someone on the street?!!!! Its time for us parents to take these matters in our own hands…. Oh boyyyyy, the day one of my sons come home and say they got attacked on the street is the day I get put behind bars,,,NO JOKE!!! I’ve had enough of this!!! Its not right… I hope the boy has a speedy recovery and I pray for him and his family! May God be With you!
Hi,Syl and Mercy + all others. No we can not take it into our own hands. We have Police to do that. They are paid from our money. I have seen no comment posted by BPS or even from their trusted spokesman ( but it rained and I to watch the Murdocks instead !!! ) I ask again why are the thugs not caught on the CCtv and prosecuted ( under age ? or friends of the family ) Happy Cup Match all.
