Guyana took the lead five minutes into the second half when Vurlon Mills found the back of the net, Christopher Bourne was the second Guyana player to go in the referee’s book when he was shown the yellow card in the 54th minute. In the 59th minute Mills doubled the Guyana lead when he blasted a shot from just inside the box that flew past a stranded Freddy Hall.

Two minutes later Tyrell Burgess replaced John Barry Nusum as Bermuda went in search of a goal to get back into the game, Rogger Lee’s name was added to the Bermuda yellow card list in the 70th minute, however Bermuda’s first goal of the wualifiers finally came in the 90th minute.

Khano Smith’s left footed drive from the edge of the box beat Ronson Williams in goal for Guyana low and to his left, four minutes of injury time was shown by the fourth official, and Bermuda came close to finding the equalizer when a powerful header from a Smith free kick was saved by Williams.

Oh the foreigner, forced into work bondage in the Isles of Devils..Taken from their homes in Europe and the Americas against their will to earn tax free dollars and live near beaches …forced by Immigration to remain in this forsaken outpost for decades.. What a horrible life!!!

  7. Ambitious Girl says:

Wish I could be on-island for these games!! Although a bit of a disappointment let’s support and see our boys to THREE home victories!

It will be interesting to watch the Trinidad & Tobago game as they were the ones to beat Bermuda at the chance of qualifying 4 years ago. Let’s hope their hard work since has paid off!

  8. GPS says:

Too Bad Bermuda….not mad at the players at all…it’s the BFA’s fault!…The senior national team program is a joke…same oh same oh preparations, let’s get a team together this week and HOPE they do well…..oggghhhhh….When will the BFA ever get it together….seems like they on the same time line at the national stadium progress.

    • smith says:

@ GPS…you couldn’t be more wrong with regards to your stance on preparation. I have read the comments from former National coach Thompson and others who suggest that the preparation would be the downfall. My intial reaction was ‘it’s kenny being the same ole Kenny’, but i just can’t allow such self servng comments to go unchallenged. And yes I know others have weighed in but it wasn’t sufficient. Does anyone remember the last World Cup campaign. If you did, you would also remember the outrageous fight between the Hogge’s and the National team for the same players. You would remember, the same players having to at times play 3 games in the space of 8 days, 2 with the Hogge’s and sometimes squashed in between, a WC qualifier.
Fast forward to 3 years ago and the BFA and the Hogge’s got it right, when in fact the BFA provided significant funding support to the Hogge’s (read it people–it’s in their annual reports). What in fact happend was that the Hogge’s would become Bermuda’s National team and in doing so provide our top players with 18 games a year. Not 1 or 2 leading up to a competiton, Not 3rd rate competiton at the Island games, but 18, which allowed them to gell as a TEAM!!
And yes the team was a young team, however, the PDL allowed up to 6 over age players, A PERFECT opportunity to blend young talent with seasoned players!!!!!!!
So now let’s look at the PDL. Such inferior oppositon some said–yet our best players couldn’t manage to win more than a half a dozen games–such poor opposition!!
Let’s look at the PDL and if you care to scratch the surface rather than hitch a ride on band wagons, you would know that the PDL is a league made up of ELITE College Talent. It’s a league that is the single biggest provider of players to the MLS (Americas top league and a league by the way that most top managers would say is as good, if not better, than the Chapuonship in Engalnd).
35 US Internationals started their careers in the PDL. There are 8 players plying their trade in the EPL that came from PDL teams. There are 3 players currently playing in the Bundesliga and 1 in the French Ligue 1 that came from PDL teams.
Bermuda has never been better prepared for such a competition!!!! But what people fail to accept is that no matter how great we prepare a national team, the chances are that we will never get past the 3rd round, a feat that has only occured once, under Gary Darrell.
And for those realist out there—we know that we have been punching above our weight for a very long time. Well done Bermuda–Well Done!!!!!!

      • unbelieveable says:

You have no clue what your talking about i have been apart of the national set up for over 6 years and its the same preparation the same favortism and the same results every competition we enter. We dont give players that are not so called big name players a chance. You have temani steed best your player of the year not even selected…jason lee nominated for best young player of the year and yet these guys cant even get a shine…We continue to recall kahno and john nusem who both have not played any competitive football and pushing away and robing young up and coming talent of valuable international experience. Everytime its the same team and we always expect a different result…..I support my country i support my team i will be in the stands cheering them on but something has to change….Every country around us has rebuilt and we still recalling coaches to play at top level….thats why we still right were we are.

        • Ross says:

Maybe and I could be wrong but maybe there are reasons why some of those named couldn’t be selected or chose not to participate.

Been around young man, seen things and I know that many players rule themselves out for a wide variety of reasons. This I know and fyi, 6 years involved makes you a novice from where I sit…

  9. Betty Rech says:

    not surprised either -

  10. ross says:

Not sure that blame can be placed on the FA for the results and if we should be playing the blame game at all. Further we have no idea ( from a distance and without seeing them perform ) if Guyana were / are formidable opponents. Keep in mind that Guyana have players playing professionally in Trinidad, the UK and for the Puerto Rico Islanders, which is a very strong team.

The majority of our players have been together under the Hogges for the better part of 2 years. They have played against good opposition, as evidenced by their results and the strategy appears to be to develop a younger group with a view to gaining success in the future, which is both reasonable and long term.

Guyana was never a powerhouse in this region, however with FIFA funds they and many of the other former minnows in this region have improved significantly. Panama comes to mind immediately. In short, put down the long knives and the short ones as well.

    : )

  11. Cancer says:

Hey John … If were blanks at everything go back home. I bet you wudnt come out in the open and say that!

    • john says:

      i have, and im bermuduian

    • mike says:

He wouldn’t come out in public and make remarks like that cause he’ll get one hell of a ass whopping!!! He sounds like an idiot who likes to hide in the closet!

  12. Lmao says:

Bye bye World Cup for Bermuda as always

    • ross says:

      @ the donkey..

Mexico – ranked 20th in FIFA – All players are professional to include Chicarito the new Man United star..

USA – ranked 28th – All players are professional to include Dempsey @ Fulham, Howard at Everton, etc, etc.. Defeated Spain in the Confederation Cup…

Jamaica – ranked 43rd – all players are either professional or play with top college teams in the US..

Honduras – All players are professional to include some playing in La Liga…

Costa Rica – Panama – Canada are all filled with professional payers, some playing in top leagues around the world..

T&T – El Salvador- Guatemala – Cuba are all top football countries…

All of the above are contesting the 3 places that go to to CONCACAF..

      ………………………………………………………
Some cause happiness wherever they go. Others whenever they go.. Have a long journey..

      • Hmmm says:

I agree… Guyana has 10 times the population of Bermuda and we held them to 2-1 in Guyana. Yeah, we lost, but we are picking from a pool of probably 65k people compared to 750k in Guyana. To me it speaks volumes about the progress we are making and our skill relative to our side.

Look at the Trinidad result, even Kenwyne Jones could only score one against us, and Trinidad made the world cup in 2006.

I think a lot of positives can be taken from these results and I look forward to seeing our boys in action at the national stadium.

  13. Geronimo of the West says:

    What are wualifiers?
What ever it is I hope we Wualify!!!

  14. john says:

most dont have the will or desire or passion
im talking bout that blood sweat and tears attitude
to take on the world with one mission to be the best
not all blanks sorry bout that, i just get so vex,
to most of the players its just fashion,, just to say they play ball for a team or cricket for a team, with their ganja filled lungs and brains and sh!tty attitudes,, world stage? please

  15. john says:

im sure if some were able to get off this rock to train and perfect their skills and body,
and train with guys who share that passion and eat sleep drink even dream about it nights, were they cant wait for the next day to do it,,, waking up in the middle of the night to try something that they had a dream of doing and making their sport a real part of them
crying when they fail cause they need it so bad,,

  16. mike says:

Hey john, are u bermudian? if u r then that means ur a blank too and if ur not, go back to where u came from. If u r not from here, please let me know where ur from so i don’t go there and deal with a*sholes like u!!!

    • john says:

you sound like a loser like your team, probably someone in your family plays the game

      • mike says:

And u sound like the a*shole i figured u r ,I’m sure u followed in ur families footsteps!!!

  17. I watched the game on Bernews against Guyana. ( I AM A TRUE THROUGH & THROUGH BERMUDIAN)!!!!!!!!!! And what truly , truly disappointed was that I hardly saw 3 completed passes, ball control was not up to par, when finally started to attack we either held the ball too long to lose possession, or for some reason killed the attack by going all the way backwards for no apparent reason, Khano needs to retire for real though, he looked very lazy and tired …… And lastly, The entire game if we had 7 corners, NOT ONE. NOT ONE DAMN CORNER was delivered to the penalty area for a header , keeper fumble, anything. We took all corners very short and kept losing possession. Too much individual showboating and no one wanting to pass…… That’s my honest view from a former player.. I STILL LOVE MY TEAM, BUT COME ON GUYS………By the way DeVarr said field was terrible with a cricket pitch in the middle, every field we play on during football season has a cricket pitch bro……. And most our fields are terrible, look at the uneven bounce we play on day in and out. So thats a lame excuse…… Good luck BDA

    • SMH says:

True 4 real…..I think a girls college team could come down here and whoop these guys a*ses for real! Maybe that will wake them out of their delusional beauty sleep. Your not all that guys. Leave the weed alone and show up for training regularly. Then maybe we’ll see some progress…..4 million for what?

      sheeeeze

      • ross says:

If I agreed with you we’d both be wrong!!!

        • SMH says:

@ Ross I bet an old boys 11 can beat that prima donna crew that lost to who? Guyana…..back in the late 90s lost to Antigua was an embarrassment. 4 million dollars later, the losses last week were down right insulting to every tax payer on this island….ditto for the national cricket team. BTW have you watched the professional womens soccer league? Most of those girls are recent college graduates.

  18. Ross says:

I would take that bet and give you odds…

Countries to the south are no longer purely cricket oriented and considerable monies have been spent to improve football …I have not discussed the squad selection with the current coaches, however I can’t believe that they would not have selected Kwame Steede, Ralph Bean and Jemeiko Jennings if they were available.. These three senior players would have added significant experience to the current squad. Not unlike the 90′s squad that lost on away goals, ( 2 draws ) being unable to select Goater, Kyle Lightbourne, keishon Smith, Dwight Baisden and Dennis Robinson for a variety of reasons. Note that all had been regulars prior to the Antigua match…They were replaced by ( previously unused )teenagers out of necessity..

In short, there are many reasons why teams do poorly, just ask Wenger, after the 8-2 embarrassment at Old Trafford…

Not sure how to respond to the college girls comment..so I won’t….

  19. peter says:

johns is right, no champions round here, mabey some amateur level local heros,
mike does sound like a total loser, almost punkish, lol
i think johns talking about the eye of the tiger way of thinking,
really dont expect everyone to understand,,

  20. k says:

younger sportsmen in bermuda lack the inner desire and killer instinct to get to the next level . i see alot of players praised for being good when technically they are way out of touch. no excuse for poor football when it is shown on tv everyday. fitness is crucial as well . part time ballers will only reach a certain level and that is the reality!!!!!!! we have to keep inspiring the kids and give them hope.
