Upcoming: Kennel Club Dog Shows

October 21, 2011

The Bermuda Kennel Club will be holding their Annual Dog Shows on Saturday and Sunday, October 22 & 23, 2011 at Somersfield Academy, Middle Road, Devonshire. Judging starts each day at 8.30am and admission is free.

There will be four International All Breed Championship Dog Shows Conformation shows, also referred to as Breed Shows, are where each purebred dog is judged against the ideal breed type for their Breed, as described in its Breed Standard, like you see at the Westminster Dog Show, CRUFTS or the AKC/Eukanuba Championships on TV.

There will also be four Licensed Obedience Trials. Obedience is a performance dog sport in which dog/handler teams are judged on their ability to perform a series of exercises, increasing in difficulty from Novice to Utility classes. Dogs must start in the Novice class and win three qualifying scores at each level before moving up to the next class.

In addition, the show will feature Rally Obedience Trials. Rally is a more relaxed and fun style of Obedience, run under similar rules to Canadian Rally Obedience (CARO). In this sport talking and barking are allowed.

This year there will be about 70 dogs competing in the various events throughout the weekend, with thirteen entered from the US/Canada. The Judges for all the disciplines are also coming from the US and Canada.
