Bermuda Woman Fined For DUI In Canada

December 14, 2011

“It was an unusual case of drunk driving that saw a woman plead guilty to a different charge so she can get back in the country,” reported Canada’s Southshore.ca.

“Fifty-nine-year-old Jean Ferrett and her husband live in Bermuda, but have homes in Chester and Halifax. They also have a son and grandchild living in the Truro area.

“When Ms Ferrett was arrested for impaired driving in February, she faced being banned from Canada for five years. As a foreign national, she would not be allowed to return with a criminal conviction on her record.”

“It’s not normally a case for the Crown to accept a guilty plea to Motor Vehicle Act matters when there’s a Criminal Code charge such as this before the court. I can indicate that the circumstances of Ms Ferrett would put her in what I would call an exceptional circumstance,” Crown attorney Michelle MacDonald told the court.

Ms Ferrett had two passengers in her car when she was pulled over in February 2011. Reports say she was unsteady on her feet, smelled of alcohol, and then failed a roadside screening test and was subsequently arrested.
