Photos: Bermuda West Ham Youth Soccer Camp
This week the BFA Field in Prospect played host to the Bermuda West Ham Youth Soccer Camp. Running from Monday August 13th and ending today [Aug 16], there were two groups of kids taking part. The younger kids morning group was at times up to 29 and the evening teen group saw up to 16 kids.
West Ham United Football Club from London, England, have arguably one of the greatest youth academies in the world. In recent years the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole and Glen Johnson all graduated from the West Ham United Academy. The West Ham United International Academy has been established to identify players who may one day be good enough to play for the West Ham first team.
Led by two coaches from the West Ham United International Academy we spoke to one of the coaches Ross Kleinfelter who himself passed through the academy. Ross mentioned that Bermuda has a long history with West Ham due to our own Clyde Best having played for them.

He was impressed with the raw skills a lot of the players possessed here for such a small island and was quick to point out some of the up and coming young players with exceptional talent. He also noted that in order for them to really have a chance, they need to find their way overseas to participate in a higher level of training.
The camp is an annual event and is open to 8-16 year old boys and girls and will be always be overseen by a senior member of the West Ham United International Academy coaching staff. The camp will consist of coaching methods and drills from the West Ham United Academy, with each player receiving a West Ham United International Academy camp t-shirt.
Players excelling at this camp will be invited to the 2013 West Ham United International Academy National Residential Camp in the USA, staffed by the Academy coaches from the West Ham United Academy in London and directed by Academy Director Tony Carr. Players excelling there will be invited to London for a West Ham United Academy experience.
