October 8, 2012

The Sandys Showtime Drumline returned to the island today [Oct 8] after performing in the front of an estimated 100,000 strong crowd at the Circle City Classic Parade in Indianapolis, Indiana.

They were greeted by Minister Michael Scott and Education Minister Dame Jennifer Smith, who both told them they did the island proud, and commended the students, teachers. “You held the name of Bermuda high, and did your country well. And for that, I thank you,” said Dame Jennifer.

The group is under the direction of Troy Washington Sr, and consists of 27 students — ranging from 11 to 15 years old — from Sandys Secondary Middle School, Berkeley and CedarBridge Academy.

Mr Washington explained about some aspects of the trip and said: “I am humbled right now to be the leader of these great young people. They work hard.”

“During the Parade a lot of people were blown away. They did not know where Bermuda was before, but they can now recognize that Bermuda has it going on.”

The parade was live streamed by WishTV, and the announcers had high praise for the Sandys Showtime Drumline, calling them “fantastic,” and admiring their dance moves saying they were “bringing the Caribbean flavour.”
