31-Year-Old Man Charged With Sexual Assault

January 14, 2013

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Jan 14], a 31 year-old man faced five charges involving assault, assault causing bodily harm, sexual assault, acting in a threatening manner, and unlawfully detaining a woman against her will.

The charges arose as a result of alleged incidents at the woman’s home in January 2013. The woman had been romantically involved with the individual.

Senior Magistrate Archie Warner set the trial date for the five counts as 29th April 2013. He then ordered that the man — who cannot be named for legal reasons — should be remanded into custody until then.

Bermuda needs to start posting pictures with names!!!! Definitly need to show the rest of us who these nasty people are for the protection of our kids!!!!

    • Tya Wills says:

They won’t because they are ‘protecting’ the victim, however, I totally agree with you because having their pictures broadcast can prevent the same thing happening with someone else.

      • 1minute says:

They also can’t as he maybe innocent. Once found guilty, then they should publish their names

I dont know who this guy is or anything to do with his case, give him his day in court. If he is guilty and proven so, he has to accept his punishment. If he is really innocent than he is innocent. Some of us in Bermuda are quick to judge and/or make negative comments about people who have been charged with an offence in the courts, without knowing any or all of the facts which really doesnt help in anyway.Correct me if I am wrong it seems that some of us dont understand “Innocent until proven guilty”,or some of us really have a need to just talk and gossip, so the “Guilty until proven innocent” approach is taken. The judicial system has accepted the “Guilty until prove innocent” approach and if for whatever reason you cant prove to the court your innocence, you will wrongfully be found guilty. Many people throughout the world, including Bermuda have been convicted and are actually innocent. Please dont get me wrong I believe in justice and if you are guilty than yes you shall be punished, but to be assumed guilty by others before your day in court is sad and even worse being convicted and you are innocent. If someone knows within themself that they are guilty, but found innocent that is on them.Although sometimes it may not seem like it, I believe that they will have to answer for their actions one way or another. A great man once said “A threat to justice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere”.

    • RawOnion says:

Thank you Errin for your insight however, the law in Bermuda is exactly that and has been for years. No one is named nor pictured until he or she is found guilty by the courts.

    • Free says:

Oh save that nonsense for someone else. As you said if you don’t know who the person is or the circumstances-shut your mouth. You have no more a right to say he’s innocent than anyone else who says he’s guilty. Just as plenty of people have been found guilty and were innocent, there have been guilty people who were found innocent. The justice system doesn’t always get it right and not all the time does “not guilty” mean innocent. Get a grip.

    • Errin Butterfield says:

For anyone who cares I realized that I misqouted it should read”Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”.

  3. Open mind says:

@free , you need to shut the hell up!! Errin Butterfield is not saying the individual is innocent or guilty, E. Butterfield is simply saying (in terms that you will understand) stop being narrow minded, judgmental, gossiping a$$ holes and give the person a chance to prove themselves before you pass judgement, your not a judge. And regardless of who the person is, no one knows what took place. Everybody has been wrongfully accused before proving themselves in someway wether it was stealing, cheating, gossiping etc. and it’s not nice. I know Bermuda is small but must Bermudians be so small minded.

    • Free says:

How about you shut up! People have every right to judge anyone they want-deal with it.

      • Pois0n_Dart says:

Please stop with the “Bermudians are so small minded” crap. Its not just Bermudians posting on this site or any others. Our foreign brethren, being human, are just as capable as Bermudians of producing ignorant statements, and prove it on a daily basis in forums such as these. Believe me, small-mindedness is a global disease…

      • Errin Butterfield says:

Thank you very much. You proved my point.

  4. LORD HAVE MERCY says:

    INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN RAPIST

  5. Stop Playing Games says:

Part of the problem is these young girls play too many games. One minute they call the cops and want the guy locked up, the next minute he is back in her bed. No means no and if they are really serious they will cut the guy off and mean it.

  6. Open mind says:

Poison_dart and lord have mercy your just as simple. @ stop playing games I couldn’t have said it better.
