Christmas Boat Parade To Set Sail Again In 2013

January 28, 2013

One of the most spectacular events of the Christmas holiday season will be making a welcome return this year, with the Bermuda Christmas Boat Parade set to take place on Saturday December 7th 2013. As in previous years the boats will circumnavigate Hamilton Harbour.

Now running as a biennial event, organiser Norma Thomson says the Boat Parade will be back “bigger and better than ever.”

Video of the 2011 Boat Parade winner:

“This is the biggest spectator event of the year,” said Ms Thomson. “And we hope to make it the biggest parade fleet ever. Private boat owners, companies, charities and community groups are all being encouraged to enter boats in the parade.

“We want to make sure as many people as possible are aware of the date of the parade as early as possible. Getting boats to participate is always our most challenging task, but we hope that boat owners will make a special effort and come out and support the event by signing up through our website www.bermudaboatparade.bm.”

Since 1998, when it first ran, the boat parade has been a locals event. It has never been promoted overseas as an attraction, a reason to come to Bermuda.

This has been an opportunity missed year after year. Boat parades are held in the US but few, except in major boating towns such as Ft Lauderdale, San Diego or Annapolis, are as large or larger than Bermuda. We more than hold our own both in numbers & size of boats to most anywhere.

We have excellent shoreside viewing. The RBYC, no stranger to welcoming visitors, has been a most gracious host as a pre parade staging area for everyone getting the party atmosphere going early.

Now is the time for the DOT & Tourism Authority to get the wheels in motion to promote the boat parade overseas.

    @ Triangle Drifter
I would have to fully agree with you.
This was a major event to go to at Christmas time and my family looked forward to it every year -
    so it was a miss.
This Event is and was excellent and unique for visiters coming here.
My Friends from abroad loved it.
but it only goes to show how bad Wayne Furcert was as the Tourist Minister — so glad he’s out !
