Container Ship Diverts Due To Sick Crewman

The container ship CMA CGM MELISANDE diverted to Bermuda on Wednesday [July 17] to land a crewperson with suspected appendicitis. The ship arrived at approximately 9.45pm and safely disembarked the man before he was transported to hospital for treatment.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Wednesday 17th July at 10.13am Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre was contacted by Shipping Agents Meyer’s Agency reporting the container ship CMA CGM MELISANDE was diverting to Bermuda to land a crewperson with suspected appendicitis.

“BMOC arranged for the man to be landed via the Pilot Cutter St. David to a KEMH ambulance at Ordnance Island, for subsequent treatment in the hospital.

“The ship arrived at 21.45pm and safely landed the man before departing at 22.15pm for it’s next port in Malaysia via the Mediterranean Sea and Suez Canal”.
