Miss World Contest Moved To Bali Amid Protests

September 16, 2013

Following public outcry in Jakarta, Indonesia, the host city of the 2013 Miss World Competition, regarding what many hard line Muslims see as the unholy objectification of women, the contest’s organizers have decided to move the entire event to nearby Bali, the island province of the country that traditionally holds much more liberal views.

Stuff.co.nz reports that the competition’s local organisers, a firm called MNC, were set upon hundreds of angry protesters outside of their headquarters early in the competition, many of them waving banners that offered slogans such as “Go To Hell Miss World” and “Reject Miss World” – this despite the fact that the same organisers had promised that the beachwear segment of the content would feature contestants in traditional Indonesian sarongs instead of bikinis.

“I think there is a misunderstanding, I assure that there will be nothing that runs against our culture. I would not accept if there was a bikini show,” Hary Tanoesoedibjo, head of MNC, said to Stuff.co.nz just before the decision was made to move the contest to Bali.

Despite the controversy, the show will go on, and the call remains out to islanders to support our own Miss Bermuda, Katherine Arnfield.

This kind of stuff really irritates me. I am not one to speak out against any religion but this is ridiculous. I hate that Muslim Extremist feel it necessary to force on everyone else their religious practices. Just because you don’t agree with the Miss World pageant doesn’t mean you have you try and shut it down. It has nothing to do with you. Stop forcing your dam opinions on others. Furthermore, the way the Islam’s Extremist oppresses their women is sickening. They are treated like slaves.
