Tourism Authority Bill Passes In The Senate
Just after noon today [Oct 7] after a short debate, Senators passed the Bill to allow the formation of the Tourism Authority. The Bill has already passed in the House of Assembly.
A few weeks ago Government confirmed that the Bermuda Department of Tourism [BDOT] will be dissolved, staff will have to reapply for positions, and the Tourism Authority will come into effect which will “operate as a private sector entity.”
The implementation of a Tourism Authority was a campaign promise made by the One Bermuda Alliance in the 2012 General Election, and veteran hotelier David Dodwell has been named as the Chairman.
Speaking previously, Tourism Minister Shawn Crockwell said: “Mr. Dodwell has been tasked with leading the formation of and creating the structure for the new Authority that will fulfill one of our election promises – to move Tourism out of the political realm.
“The priority of the Authority will be to maintain continuity and to ensure that political interference is removed so that we can achieve the best outcome for the revival of Bermuda’s Tourism industry.”

It appears to me that the appointment of Mr. Dodwell already obviated that promise. Sorry. Don’t buy it.
At last, at long last, the Tourism Authority is born.

David Dodwell for implementing one of the key components of the
National Tourism Plan.
Let’s give the TA three years to turn the tide. If they do, nice. If they don’t, will brother Crockwell keep his promise to fire the lot, starting with Dodwell and hire a new crew?

GET TO WORK NOW and tell the govt we don’t need a referendum on gameing just get it done, those that don’t like it don’t partake. For goodness sake the govt could start to get a REASONABLE return from gaming tax sooner rather than latter, and we may get some interest from tourists and investors. WIN WIN Congrats now lets get on with it.
The tourism authority is now on the road.
