Watson Wins Masters, Will Return To Bermuda

April 14, 2014

American Bubba Watson has won the Masters for the second time in three years and qualified for the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda. Watson started the final round of the tournament on Sunday in the lead and finished there to win his second Green Jacket.

“Some of the most talented golfers in the world never qualify for the PGA Grand Slam of Golf and Bubba Watson has done it twice in three years. It’s a tremendous accomplishment,” said David Charles, Senior Director of Championships for the PGA of America. “We look forward to seeing Bubba back in Bermuda.”

In 2012, Watson finished tied for third at Port Royal Golf Course, finishing the two-day PGA Grand Slam of Golf at three under par.

The Grand Slam features the winners of the year’s four major championships – the U.S. Open, the Open Championship, PGA Championship and the Masters.  The other three qualifiers will be decided in June, July, and August of this year.

The PGA Grand Slam will be played from October 13-15 and broadcast to a worldwide audience on television network TNT. The 32nd PGA Grand Slam of Golf is hosted by the Bermuda Tourism Authority, Port Royal Golf Course and the Fairmont Southampton.

Ticket-carrying fans are allowed to get closer to the pros at the PGA Grand Slam than at any other competitive golf tournament.  Because there is only one group during the event, spectators are permitted to follow the players down the fairways of every hole – standing just a few feet from the action in some cases.

Andy Burrows, PGA Grand Slam of Golf Chairman, said, “Bubba Watson gave us all quite the show when he was here in 2012. All of his fans in Bermuda are looking forward to seeing him and his signature pink driver back in Bermuda again at Port Royal.”

The PGA Grand Slam of Golf features a $1.35 million purse, with the winner receiving $600,000, second place winning $300,000, third place winning $250,000, and fourth place winning $200,000.
