Fraternities To Host Charity Football Match

May 27, 2014

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity are getting set to host the third annual Bascome/Lowe Charity Football Classic on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 6.00pm at Bernard’s Park.

A spokesperson said, “The aim of the tournament is to bring these two organizations that are committed to the development of the youth, especially young males, together for a friendly football match that will ultimately raise money for charity.

“The football game will take place this Thursday, May 29 at 6.00pm at Bernard’s Park. All charities can win up to $1,000. Simply bring 10 or more of your members and wear the color of the fraternity you support [red for Kappas and gold or yellow for the Alphas] and enter the name of your organization into the draw.”

“The ultimate beneficiary of this Classic will be the community as this is a family friendly event that celebrates the best of who we are. The Classic is named in honour of two powerful community servants who dedicated their entire lives to service: [Kappa] Minister Nelson Bascome, deceased, and [Alpha] Rev. Doctor Wilbur Lowe, deceased.”

Current President Lloyd Holder said, “This is an awesome way to celebrate two Bermudian men who represented service and the spirit of our community. Both of these men were avid sportsman, so honouring them in this way goes a long way to say thank you and to continue their legacy.”

Current President of Kappa Alpha Psi Ray Jones said, “In these very trying financial times, it is important that we create opportunities that allow our charities to find alternative ways of financial support as well as create positive recreational opportunities for the whole community.”

“The whole community is invited to come out and support this worthwhile event. Last year’s match was won by the men of Kappa Alpha Psi, who walked away with the trophy after a 1-0 victory over the Alphas.”
