Pair Rescued After High Speed Boat ‘Barrel Rolls’

September 6, 2014

Two men suffering minor abrasions were rescued on Friday afternoon [Sept 5] after their power boat reportedly barrel rolled near Coney Island during a practice run.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Friday 5th September at 4.27pm a VHF call was received from Fisheries vessel Grey Dog reporting a power boat practicing for this weekend’s race meeting had barrel rolled at high speed off Coney Island, jettisoning the two crew into the water.

“Grey Dog was immediately on scene, recovering the two crew members who, fortunately, had suffered only minor abrasions. Marine Police inspected the area, and markings found on undersea rocks off Coney Island suggested that the boat struck these, causing her to roll.

“EMT’s attended, though the two crew members refused medical attention, preferring to recover their severely damaged vessel, named Trim Down For What, back to its trailer at Stonecrusher Corner.”
