Photos: Osprey Lands At Bermuda Airport
A visiting Osprey aircraft – which appears to be from the United States — landed at the LF Wade International Airport at approximately 10.45am this morning [Oct 24]. What exactly it is doing here is unclear, however it is not unusual for military aircraft to stop off in Bermuda.
In describing the plane, the US Air Force website says, “The CV-22 Osprey is a tiltrotor aircraft that combines the vertical takeoff, hover and vertical landing qualities of a helicopter with the long-range, fuel efficiency and speed characteristics of a turboprop aircraft. Its mission is to conduct long-range infiltration, exfiltration and resupply missions for special operations forces.”

Considering it is the first ever operational tilt rotor aircraft its operational record is pretty good. Crashes are quite common for military aircraft anyway because of the tasks assigned to them and the stresses the aircraft and crews have to endure.
Oh yeah- forgot to mention that it is an aircaft from USMC squadron VMM-263 “Thunder Chickens”.
