Berry & Smith Break Bermuda National Records
Two Bermuda National Records have been broken over the last several days, with Ashley Berry shattering a record that has stood since 1981, while Shianne Smith broke her own record in the heptathlon.
Bermuda National Athletic Association President Donna Watson said, “Ashley Berry broke the 3000m record held by Merenette Bean since 1981 with a time of 9:42.25 breaking the previous record of 9:48.65. Ashley, the second place winner in the Bermuda Day Marathon, placed 2nd in the Watford Open Meeting.
“Shianne Smith broke her own record in the heptathlon with her 5400 points breaking her previous record of 5398. Tyrone Smith also had a good meet in Birmingham placing 4th overall with a leap of 8.14m. This distance would have qualified him for the World Championships but the wind was over the legal limit. “
