BPS Win 5 Medals At World Police & Fire Games

22 officers from the Bermuda Police Service recently competed at the 2015 World Police and Fire Games in Fairfax, Virginia USA, with the team collecting a total of five medals.

2015 BPS World Police & Fire Games Team Returns Home

During the week-long event it was estimated that 12,000 professional, public safety athletes from 70 countries competed as individuals and teams in over 60 sports to qualify for more than 1,600 medals.

BPS officers competed in three different sports – Bowling [12 officers], Golf [six officers] and Athletics [four officers] winning a total of five medals – one gold, three silver and one bronze.

Athletics

  • Gold Medal: Men’s High Jump [30-34 age group] Constable Junior Warner [1.8 metres].
  • Bronze Medal: Men’s 1,500 metres [30-34 age group] Constable Stephen Allen [4 minutes 18.50 seconds].
  • Silver Medal: Men’s 5,000 metres [Cross Country, 30-34 age group] Constable Stephen Allen [16 minutes 46 seconds]. Constable Allen also placed 6th overall and 4th in his age group for the Half Marathon with a time of 1 hour 15 minutes 35.28 seconds.

Bowling

  • The BPS bowling teams competed admirably, with at least one just missing the podium in their division [Unisex Team B 18+ age group], finishing fourth.

Golf

  • Silver Medal: Inspector Tracy Burgess [Women’s Individual 18-50 age group].
  • Silver Medal: Constables Shannon Trott & Adam Mattatall [Unisex Teams Scratch 18-50 age group].

Held biennially, the World Police & Fire Games will next be hosted in Montreal, Canada [2017] and Chengdu, China [2019].
