I’d like to leave a note for the vendor who displayed gel candles enhanced with sea shells and Bermuda sand. Unfortunately, hot liquid gel saturates the entire surface of sand in the bottom of a container, thus making it highly inflammable. If wick is allowed to burn low, it will ignite the sand base, producing high flames and black smoke that will soar out of the glass, threatening fabrics, household objects. etc. Gels can be beautiful but dangerous ornaments.

I am speaking from experience as I have been making gel candles for the Bermuda market for some fifteen years. I still make my shell embellished gels but DO NOT use sand. If the vendor would like to speak to me personally, he/she can contact me. Name is in phone book.
