Court: Man Charged With Dog & Drug Offences

November 4, 2015

Appearing in Magistrates Court today [Nov 4], a 26-year-old man pleaded guilty to keeping an unlicensed pitbull dog and was also sentenced for possessing cocaine and cannabis.

Mr Lekan Scott pleaded guilty to keeping an unlicensed pitbull at his Hamilton Parish residence. Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined him $500 with fifty days in prison as the default penalty.

The Magistrate then dealt with a Social Inquiry and BARC report before sentencing Mr Scott on a charge of possessing crack cocaine and cannabis in January 2015. Today’s sentence date had been set after Mr Scott had plead guilty at his initial Plea Court hearing.

The Magistrate said he would grant a twelve month Conditional Discharge. The Conditional Discharge would require that Mr Scott abstain from the use of all illegal substances and submit to random drug testing.

Mr Scott pointed out to the Magistrate that he was currently being held on remand, on a separate firearm charge, and asked for time to pay the $500 dogs fine. The Magistrate gave him until January 2016 to pay the fine.
