Government House Hosts Birthday Party Tea
On April 21st, the Governor George Fergusson and Mrs Fergusson hosted an afternoon tea for a number of local residents who were born within one month of the Queen’s birthday on 21 April 1926.
He unveiled a new plaque for a Washington palm planted by The Queen in 1975. This was the first of a new set of 150 specially commissioned plaques identifying the historic collection of tree plantings at Government House. The plaques were funded by the Friends of Government House Gardens with the help of Mr Roger Michel.
The event also included the lighting of a celebratory beacon on Government House grounds as part of a chain of such beacons being lit across Overseas Territories, Crown Dependencies and the UK, as well as in many other Commonwealth countries.
