BFRS Respond To “Smoke Issuing” From Home

At approximately 6.29pm today [Aug 4], the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of “smoke issuing” from a residence on Kilderry Lane in Devonshire.

Fire Service spokesperson, Staff Officer Delton White, reports, “At approximately 6:29pm on Thursday, August 4th, the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of “smoke issuing” from a residence on Kilderry Lane in Devonshire.

“We responded with 2 vehicles and 10 personnel.

“On our arrival we found smoke emitting from a fire contained in a kitchen caused by an unattended pot left on the stove. Two men dressed in full breathing apparatus entered the residence to extinguish the fire.

“Firefighters then assisted with ventilating the residence to remove the smoke. There were no injuries; however, there was major fire and smoke damage to the kitchen kitchen and minor smoke damage to the remainder of the residence.

“Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service would like to take this opportunity to remind the public to practice care and safety in the home when using appliances that can cause fire. At no time should an appliance be left unattended when in operation.”
