Streaker: ‘I Wasn’t Deliberately Out To Offend’

August 3, 2016

Matt Parker — better known as the man who ran across the field at Cup Match while undressed — said he was not “deliberately out to offend” and if he did he is “deeply sorry” as it was “meant to be a laugh.”

“Emancipation is a massive moment for Bermudian society and the world, not to be stepped on or trifled with, the righting of a diabolical historical wrong,” he said. ”Cup Match is also a celebration though right?”

“That Black Seal and sun, the life blood of Bermuda pumping,” Mr Parker added, ”I’m Australian, so I understand cricket, and I know how to party, so when the game was a bit dull, I figured we needed it to liven up a little.”

Mr Parker — who noted that he was supporting Somerset — said he “accepted the police ending his day,” spent 7 hours in jail, and “was well mannered and contrite, and so was treated well in return.”

“I’m sure you can ask the massive numbers of people who’ve come to give me a high five or take a photo with me around the island over the last few days, that I’ve got a good heart,” he added.

“And the few I met think were offended, I took my scolding from and apologised to, sincerely.”

Police Comment

A police spokesperson said, “At 4:10pm on Friday Police responded to a report of a male spectator running across the field of Somerset Cricket Club in a half-dressed state.

“The 31-year-old visitor was subsequently detained, removed from the grounds and taken to Hamilton Police Station. He was later released without charge.”

Mr Parker’s Comment

In a comment originally posted on Bernews initial article as well as on social media which we contacted him to confirm, Mr Parker said, “I thought I’d weigh in with side of the story, defend and excuse myself, apologise and celebrate. That both sides of Bermuda game.

“So yes, I’m the Cup Match streaker, Matt Parker. I was also the non-gay non-priest at the Off Shore Same Sex Marriage Temple at Non-Mariners, where I came in 4th…which I’m sure can fire a few more people up.

“Let me say from the outset, I wasn’t and am not now, deliberately out to offend. If I did, or continue to, I’m deeply sorry.

“Obviously black emancipation is a massive moment for Bermudian society and the world, not to be stepped on or trifled with, the righting of a diabolical historical wrong.

“Cup Match is also a celebration though right? A party? That Black Seal and sun, the life blood of Bermuda pumping! I wasn’t the only one with my a*** out and I certainly wasn’t violent and I accepted the police ending my day.

“I’m sure you can ask the massive numbers of people who’ve come to give me a high five or take a photo with me around the island over the last few days, that I’ve got a good heart. And the few I met think were offended, I took my scolding from and apologised to, sincerely.

“I’m Australian, so I understand cricket, and I know how to party, so when the game was a bit dull, I figured we needed it to liven up a little.

“I learned a lot in Bermuda while I was there, and it seems that often the big or small issues really polarise opinion and my streaking is no exception.

“At the end of the day, I lost a bet, or a game of odds, pick a number from one to 75 and after a three count me and my bie hit on 26. Either I lose my freedom and dignity, or I lose honour amongst friends.

“It was meant to be a laugh, I was apologising to the player when he shook my hand! I spent about 7 hours in jail, admitted my offence, was well mannered and contrite, and so was treated well in return and let off with a caution.

“I will say this, they gotta do something about the quality of the food in that jail, it’s not even fit for a dog y’all!

“After I was released, sober, into the care of my drunken friends, I was taken to the Spinning Wheel where I was given hero status and showered with Black Seal, beers and selfies from the regulars. That’s my favourite bar in Bermuda right there.

“I can also confirm it was a red and white kuffiyah that I bought in Libya wrapped for modesty, an all purpose cloth that I usually wear on my head…and I was supporting Somerset!

“Big up yaself Bermuda, it’s all love and I can’t wait to be back,” he added,

  22. holycow says:

Who cares if some religious fruitcake is offended? It’s not like their opinions are relevant anyways
However it was encouraging to see you run around the field with your BAT and BALLS out ready to play.
Im not sure id like to receive your balls bowled at me…despite my great love for the game.

    • the truth will set you free says:

They are called private parts for a reason. It has already been prophesied that mankind will have a debased mind and the comments are proving prophesy to be true.

“They are called private parts for a reason.”

        …by children

  23. holycow says:

Watching this streaker certainly brightened my day hahahaha. It’s not like the cricketers were the main attraction …why would you go to watch this level of cricket when most of us are used to the BEST? For the beer, and to laugh at an Aussie streaker…hahahaha made my day.

    • sage says:

Beach? Chicks were wearing thongs all over the streets of Hamilton and Somerset, grocery stores, gas stations, it’s great! I can’t wait to see what they will be rockin’ next year, within a few years they will be naked. Dudes, keep your clothes on.

  27. Jus' Wonderin' says:

If he were another colour it would have been different….don’t come back!

  28. FML says:

I guess the real observation was that he was NOT actually nude. So if you took this to court he would have won.

  29. Curiousity has Landed says:

Yeah they let all those girls and women walk around in g-strings during the carnival i went to here and i was disgusted by how they were dressed in public in front of children all ages. dancing in thongs and g-strings, their breasts were often exposed and I saw many nips that I should not have. Sadly most of these girls were unsightly and offensive to behold period, not to mention the public indecency and lewd dancing. The whole spectacle was WORSE than what this one poor man did, and he was not naked! How can you allow girls and women of all ages to parade their almost naked sweaty bodies off, probably a thousand or more girls in total. i swear some were under 16. lots of little kids looking at them perplexed, especially when they gyrated on each other drunk in public like a strip club. Yeah that’s healthy wholesome public behavior right? Why dont you all go arrest these girls? You have sick double standards. You allow our nation and its 400yr old culture to be abominated by foreign carnival culture and its indecent lewd public sexual dancing and behavior, drunkenness, near-naked and often flashing body parts, dressed like strippers literally? watching peoples daughters and granddaughters and mothers and sadly some grandmothers going by like this? SICK! how can you people have such a condemnable double standard?

That streaker should get a trophy not arrested. Have some humor and stop being so stuck up and hypocritical.

  30. takbir Sharrieff says:

At least the comments thinking that this type of behavior in public was ,,,,ok,,,shows the level of depravity this Island has sunk to in some circles, and the disrespect that some depraved people have for other decent people.,,,,,,good benchmark for the future.Lots of work to be done for the future.Peace.

  31. bdaboy says:

” the disrespect that some depraved people have for other decent people.,”

You’re the one who said you would kill your child if they turned out to be gay.
Your opinion is barbaric and means nothing to other decent human beings.
