BHB: Urgent Care Centre Closure This Weekend

September 16, 2016

Bermuda Hospitals Board today [Sept 16] advised that it will have to “close the Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre this weekend [Saturday 17 and Sunday 18] as it is unable to cover an unplanned absence of the Emergency physician scheduled to work at the facility.”

Dr Edward Schultz, Chief of Emergency and Hyperbaric Medicine, comments: “BHB is sorry that we are unable to find an Emergency physician to cover an unplanned absence by the scheduled physician at the UCC.

“We will open again on Monday 19 September 2016 at the usual time 4pm. Over the weekend, we ask that people with emergency medical needs go directly to the Emergency Department at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, which remains fully staffed and operational.”

  1. Bermudian and confused says:

1 absence shuts down an entire urgent care center serving the east end? Really? Come on BDA you can do better than that especially when the nurse I had at the hospital a few weeks back barely spoke a lick of English, the pizza I got last month was delivered by a young man more accustomed to making curry and the guy who sold me a bike battery at a well down bike shop spoke with an Asian twang and the English he did know had very noticeable Bermudian accent. Not hating on expats, locals or anybody gainfully employed in general, hating on the fact that if I go to certain grocery stores at anytime they are open all of a sudden a guest worker is there to help but when I or so
Winein know needs medical help the facility is shut because someone went on vacation.

    • Zevon says:

      Racist.

      • Juicy Onion says:

Simply calling this person a racist does not adequately describe the disgusting nature of the comment. Racist is a term often used when someone can’t think of anything better to say. I could Write a book about the depths to which this blogger has sunk. Racist is simply not sufficient andlets him off lightly.

That’s because the word racist has come to mean very little since it is so overused.

        • Zevon says:

I completely agree. It’s a disgusting comment. Some Bermudians seem to think they can be as nasty as they like to brown people, as long as they come from Asia.

Totally agree with everything you said.

    • John says:

Who said the physician is on vacation? Not hating on expats? Yes u are….. You go work there and cover the physician. If there is no doctor to cover then of course it closes down …. So now I will add to your tyraid of hating and say “The commenter on Bernews doesn’t have a Lick of common sense”

  2. Family Man says:

If English is your first language, you should be thoroughly embarrassed after posting that.

  3. Terry says:

Bermudian has some very valid points.

    Denial is a bitch.

    • thetruth says:

Nah. Bermudian is a nasty scumoftheearth disgusting little bigot.

  4. Rosie Marangiello says:

And not ONE other physician could be sent to island (by same insurance company, to cover entire east end? Shameful disgrace.

    • Terry says:

Are we reading the same thing or are you drinking rum swizzles…..
There are many that can fill the shoes……….
      Your point again?

    • thetruth says:

      By what insurance company?

    • filobedo21 says:

Shortages occur and will continue. We managed alright in the past. And we will manage during this two day closure. Take a break the sky is not falling.

  5. mmm says:

Should we have an emergency, of a certain magnitude, then all hands on deck, an oath has been taken by doctors to preserve life. I am sure the decision made was made with certain probabilities in mind, and it was not made in haste or by one person. Hopefully there will be no terrible situations happening in the east during this closure.

  6. Legalgal says:

Bring one over for the weekend! May be a lot cheaper than a local.

  7. Rick Olson says:

The problem will be people will still show up at the clinic expecting it to be open hopefully they won’t need urgent care. I imagine most of the population won’t be aware of the closure or will simply forget .

  8. Wingnut says:

The problem is this Centre for what ever reason is unsupported by BHB. There is and has been a move to close it down. Let me in lighten to the fact that if this is aloud to happen and we think it’s ok because it’s only for a short period of time, we have lost. The BHB could use this facility for one or more of their smaller departments witch is funded by our Health Insurance Companies though service charges. The shame goes to us Eastenders that we loose again by poor representation form both parties. We should ask the question can the BHB afforded the Lamb Foggo Center or can we the Tax payers afford BHB making this disingenuous decisions on our Health Care. Who is in charge?
