RA Investigating: Complaints Of BTC Billing Error

December 13, 2016

The Regulatory Authority said they have been made aware “of a billing error made by BTC which resulted in thousands of business customers receiving overage charges” and are “currently investigating the matter,” while BTC confirmed “there was an issue with a third party system,” adding that they ”worked proactively to provide clear information to our affected customers” and “remain committed to resolving case by case.”

RA Statement

The RA said, “The Regulatory Authority has been made aware, by way of complaints, of a billing error made by BTC which resulted in thousands of business customers receiving overage charges dating back to October 2015.

“The Authority is currently investigating the matter and is advising customers who dispute the charges to do so in writing to BTC at request@btc.bm.

“In accordance with BTC’s Terms and Conditions, customers are not liable for disputed charges until the dispute is rectified. However, customers do remain liable to pay all undisputed charges to avoid disconnection of service.

“Once the Authority concludes the investigation, a further announcement will be made of its findings. Customers that do not receive a response from BTC can notify the Authority via its website at www.rab.bm.”

BTC Statement

A BTC spokesperson said, “We can confirm there was an issue with a third party system that resulted in a limited number of our business customers receiving services for which they were not invoiced.

“No residential customers were affected by this and the system issue has now been fully rectified. We worked proactively to provide clear information to our affected customers, we understand the concern and frustration some have and remain committed to resolving case by case.”

Last notification I received from BTC was saying that my business phone would be cut off as of 15 Dec with a $50 re connection fee. I have paid my bill, except for the disputed charges [almost $600]. All my emails to BTC, when answered, are to say that a Manager will be in touch. Still waiting …. But for each of my emails I have received a ‘please take our survey and let us know how we are doing”.
