Richardson Places 1st & 2nd In New York

June 5, 2017

On Sunday June 4th, Lynwood ‘Brotha Richie’ Richardson, competed in his second NYTournaments.com event, the 13th Annual East Coast Open Karate Championships.

It was held at the same venue that he fought in back in January, at the Freeport Recreation Center in Long Island New York.

In his 44th year, Mr. Richardson is pursuing his passion for martial arts, and competition, because it gives him a chance to test his training in a controlled environment against other martial artists.

The chance to also meet new people and build relationships within the martial arts community outside of Bermuda is another motivating factor as well.

Brotha Richie placed 2nd in the Intermediate Men’s 35yrs+ forms division, and 1st place beating a Kenpo practitioner, Muse Muriqi, in Intermediate Men’s 35yrs+ Sparring, 5-3.

“During the fight, I rolled my ankle twice, wearing untested foot gear, but I fought through it and got the victory in the end,” Brotha Richie said.

“I would like to wholeheartedly thank everyone that came out of pocket no matter the amount, to sponsor me. That to me represents your faith in me and my ability to do my best and represent myself and my island well,” he said.

“It is never an easy road, but knowing that people are routing for you does make a difference. I came into this tournament being inspired by the likes of Nahki Wells, Nikki Bascome, and so many other ‘Onions’ that continue to be people of impact in their various disciplines and talents. I just want to be another man that can be an inspiration to those that will come after me, and even those that are in my sphere of influence now.”

The host of NYTournaments.com, Shihan Allie Alberigo would love to see more Bermudians come up to participate. More information, and applications can be downloaded at www.nytournaments.com or call [516]785-2725.
