Thirdstory On Tour With Chance The Rapper

June 26, 2017

The New York-based band ‘Thirdstory’ is currently on tour with Chance the Rapper on his Be Encouraged tour as his background vocalists.

The trio, known for their soulful sound and impressive harmonies, consists of Bermudian Ben Lusher and friends Elliott Skinner and Richard Saunders.

The band formed in New York City in early 2014, and first found fame through their YouTube covers of Sam Smith, Taylor Swift, and Adele songs, collecting almost 10 million views overall. This internet fame soon reached Tori Kelly, who asked the band to open for her on her Unbreakable Tour in spring 2016.

However, the pivotal moment for the band was the release of their debut EP, ‘Searching’ in May 2016, produced by Malay [Frank Ocean, Zayn] and featuring their hit single ‘G Train.’

According to a recent interview with Billboard, Chance’s musical director, Peter Cottontail saw a video of the group singing with Eryn Allen Kane and then asked them to sing behind Chance for his appearance on SNL. Following the success of this performance, the group was then asked to join Chance as his background vocalists on his Be Encouraged tour, which began in San Diego on April 24th and is set to finish in Dover on June 17th.

In the interview, Lusher explained that while they are focused on getting their music out as soon as possible “a lot of the relationships that we’re building on this tour are relationships that we want to continue [fostering]. There are people here that we’ve worked with in the past and we want to continue to work with later on. Ideally, we want to stay in contact with everyone, and we’re sure that [these relationships] will take us great places.”

“We’re also looking at releasing our album in the fall – no definite date yet – which will include songs from the EP [Searching] and some new stuff as well.”
