BUEI: ‘Lionfish, Dusky Sharks, Hogmouth Fry’

July 23, 2017

The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute’s [BUEI] Talks series is getting set to present “Lionfish, Dusky Sharks, Hogmouth Fry” with Dr. Corey Eddy on Thursday, July 27, beginning at 7.30pm at BUEI Auditorium.

The events poster says, “Over the past several years, Corey’s research has revealed a lot about Bermuda’s marine environment, some of which you might not be aware of. There’s the obvious, that lionfish eat a lot of everything on the reef, but he’s also found they compete with coney grouper for food on a very large scale.

“He has also studied our Galapagos sharks, also known as duskies, and tagged a pair with acoustic transmitters, then recorded their movements for three years straight. Corey is also contributing to a large study of our baitfish, including the hogmouth fry, which is set to begin this summer.

“He is ready to share the interesting preliminary results with our audience on July 27th.”

The presentation will get underway at 7.30pm, with a Sushi Happy Hour to be held at Harbourfront from 5.00pm to 6.30pm, with dinner opening at 6.00pm. Tickets cost $20 for members, $25 for non-members and $10 for students, and are available by calling 294-0204 or visiting BUEI’s Oceans Gift Shop.
