Fire Service Extinguish Rosemont Avenue Fire

[Updated] The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a fire at a property on Rosemont Avenue near Pitts Bay Road this morning [May 20].

Multiple fire service vehicles attended the scene and some fire service personnel could be seen wearing breathing apparatus. Bernews understands a fire was extinguished in an apartment on the property.

Update 11.20am: The BFRS said, “The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a structural fire at 8:02am this morning, Sunday, May 20, 2018 on Rosemont Avenue in Pembroke.

“Our Emergency Dispatch Center received the call from the resident of the apartment who stated, “I heard popping sounds coming from the kitchen and now there is smoke coming from around the doorway.”

“Fire Service spokesperson, Lieutenant Russann Francis reports, “On arrival we found heavy smoke emitting from the kitchen of the lower level apartment. As we proceeded further we noticed the contents of the room were fully engulfed in flames.

“Utilizing eight personnel from two vehicles, we quickly extinguished the flames prior to completing checks for any extension of fire throughout the premise.

“The premise has sustained severe heat and smoke damage.

“We can confirm there are no injuries at this incident.

“An investigation into the fire is currently underway.

“We would like to take this opportunity to remind the public that once it is safe, to close all doors of any room where smoke or fire is discovered.”
