St. George’s Welcomes New Seaside Market

July 4, 2019

The St. George’s Seaside Market will be held this Sunday [July 7] which “aims to celebrate the best of Bermuda made products, entertainment and experiences – with a focus on those that originate from the small town of St. Georges.”

A spokesperson said, “St. George’s welcomes a new vendor market to entice cruise ship passengers and visitors. The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation [BEDC] along with the St. George’s Foundation and the World Heritage Center would like to invite the public to come out and enjoy the St. George’s Seaside Market, this Sunday, July 7th. The market will be held at Penno’s Warf, right on the water’s edge outside of the World Heritage Center from 5pm until 8pm.

“Geared towards visitors, the St. George’s Seaside Market aims to celebrate the best of Bermuda made products, entertainment and experiences – with a focus on those that originate from the small town of St. Georges. ‘The cruise ship, Insignia, makes its first visit to the town on Sunday, and we want to kick the season off with a bang, really show our visitors what St. George’s has to offer,’ says Dennis Carter, BEDC’s newest Economic Empowerment Zone Officer [EEZ].

“Prominent St. George’s business owners such as Salt Spray Soap, Sweet Saak Bakery, and Kelly Diel Sea Glass, will all take their products to the street for what is sure to be a busy evening for the town.

“Attendees will be able to shop for locally made products, such as, jewelry, cigars, souvenirs, art, apparel and more. Not only will there be great shopping but experience driven businesses like Long Story Short will be there to guide customers through the ins and outs of all of the great things to do in St. George’s too.

“You can also expect a great line up of local entertainment. Joey Paynter the Ukulele Guy will serenade the crowd and Peter Harris will be playing the steel pans for guests. An appearance from the gombey’s will top off the evening’s festivities as well.

“The BEDC is constantly working towards developing what we call the three economic empowerment zones – Somerset, North East Hamilton, and St. Georges. This vendor market is an initiative that aims to do just that – Empower small businesses in St. Georges by providing them with the space, bridging the gap between them and customers, and giving them an opportunity to shine.

Ray Lambert, Director of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises at BEDC continues, ‘The market on Sunday is going to be the first of many this Summer in St. Georges. We have contacted the cruise line specifically and expect many of their passengers to attend. This being the first one of the season, we would really like the vendors to shine.’

“It is the BEDC’s hope that The St.George’s Seaside Market works towards encouraging more activity within the town of St. Georges. It is a great Sunday evening activity for the whole family and St. Georges couldn’t be a more beautiful venue. So, come on down and stop by the market, this Sunday, July 7th from 5pm – 8pm. Shop, experience and enjoy what the St. Georges Seaside Market has to offer!”
