King Edward Evacuated Due to Sprinkler

April 29, 2010

This afternoon parts of King Edward Memorial Hospital were evacuated following a burst of water from the sprinkler system. No one was injured, and KEMH is back operating normally.

Bernews cannot confirm the authenticy of this, however we were unofficially told that the incident may have been predicated by a “small grease fire” in the kitchen.

A spokesperson for the Bermuda Hospitals Board confirmed that:

BHB confirms that about 1.45pm during some routine maintenance in the Pink Cafe, a cylinder in the sprinkler system was damaged causing a burst of water from the sprinkler in the ceiling.

No one was injured, but an evacuation of nearby areas on the ground floor was undertaken as a precaution and the fire service called.

Hospital services are back to normal and work is now underway to carry out repairs.
