CADA Urges Safe Driving Over Cup Match

July 26, 2010

Anthony Santucci, the Chairman of CADA – Encouraging Responsible Alcohol Behavior today advised the public, “In the last four and a half years 61 people have died on Bermuda’s roads. Statistics show that alcohol and or drugs play a role in 7 out of 10 of the deaths on Bermuda’s roads, which means, in the last four and a half years 43 people have died in Bermuda as a result of impaired driving. If you are going to consume alcohol over the Cup Match holiday, please put a plan in place to get home safely, do not become a tragic statistic. We have a lot of information including bus and ferry schedules on our website, CADA.BM”

Mr. Santucci continued, “You will have noticed blue and white signs and banners around Bermuda, these are to remind the public that there are several options to drinking and driving. You can:

Use the Bus – Buses will operate per the Sunday schedule on both days of Cup Match, additionally, there is a special Cup Match Ferry schedule and copies of both can be viewed on the home page of CADA’s website CADA.BM

You can call a Cab – put the phone numbers of cab drivers you know into your cell phone and when you are ready to leave a function or the game, give them a call. Even better, before you leave home arrange for a cab driver to collect you from an agreed place at an agreed time.

Or – you can be the Designated driver, consume non-alcoholic beverages so you can volunteer and make sure family and friends get home safely.”

Mr. Santucci concluded, “Not drinking and driving is as easy as A B C D and doing any one of these things will save lives. We want everyone to have a safe and healthy Cup Match holiday.”
